#115, "Mexican Fiesta ideas?"

I have suddenly been handed the task of planing the Cub Scout banquet in about a month. The theme is Fiesta. I know this is not triplet related but thought you veteran mommies might have some ideas for decorations, food, etc. I am planning a taco bar but that is about as far as I have gotten!! Thanks in advance!

A taco bar is really easy and a great idea! Perhaps a pinata, some sombreros (check out Oriental Trading Co. they always have stuff like that). For dessert, you could try to find churros or make cinnamon sugar tortillas (deep fry flour tortillas and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar). Another desert could be flan, although that takes a little more effort

Just FYI, the cinnamon sugar tortillas you mentioned are called "buñuelos." They have been part of our New Year's Eve/Day celebration as long as I can remember. -- Gloria

I agree with the above poster. Oriental Trading has a great, cheap selection of things to set the theme for your fiesta.

I would definitely add lots of Mexican music to keep the mood. Perhaps the kids can do a Mexican hat dance.

Kari,
You could also have a Pinata. I am not sure if you need to plan any activites to go along with the banquet, but if you do, a Pinata would be a great addition.
I also agree with the taco bar suggestion. Too many other dishes require lots of prep and cooking time. You could add a selection of different shells for the taco bar such as; soft tortillas, hard taco shells, tostadas, nacho chips, etc. For the fillings you can have rice, beans (pinto/refried, black), ground beef, etc.
There is an online website where they have lots of theme decorations for parties:
www.partyadventure.com
Red, white, and green balloons (to represent the Mexican Flag) are a must have, and their cheap by the dozen!
Oh, and don't forget to have some Mexican music playing during the Fiesta! Ole!
Have fun!
