#12173, "Invention for 2nd grade"
|
Hello Ladies, I don't post here too often, but I could use some help. My 8 year old BGB have to come up with an invention for a school project. (Personally I think this is a little hard for a second grader )and present it. I am definitely not the most creative person in the world. We are having a hard time coming up with something that has not been invented already. Any suggestions out there? If anybody could use something to make our lives easier it's us!

A few (dorky) ideas:
1. flashlight--small (4watt) bulb, copper wire and 1-D battery. Decorate an exterior (paper, etc) cute 2. hot glue material to make purse, pencil case, doll outfit, etc 3. a carrier for favorite item (friend once made a curling iron stand!) 4. first aid kit (band aids, neosporin, etc) in Red Cross looking case 5. bake a special chocolate chip cookie w/ 'secret indgredient'
Have fun!! Tracey

Oh, I have an excellent idea! Something I've wanted for YEARS...
We have three cats, and they leave fur all over our hard floors. I would seriously love for someone to invent a sweater for cats to wear that would pick up the cat hair. If I had more time on my hands, I would make a little pattern and sew some of those Pledge Grab-It or Swiffer sheets together. Then the hair-shedding critters could clean up after themselves!
Please let me know if you use this idea - I'd love to know the project turned out!

Thanks, ladies for all the ideas. We might go for the cat fur one. My husband is always complaining about all the cat fur! I will run it by the kiddos and see what they say. I will let you know how we do! Thanks again!

Isn't the point for the kids to come up with their own invention ? I know I have been guilty of trying to help too much with the school projects my kids have had. The kids don't learn anything except how to get mom to do their projects and to feel like they aren't capable of doing it on their own KWIM ? Just something to think about. Lorraine

My 8 year old just invented a triplet feeder for her Invention Convention. She is the older sister to the trio. We took some plastic tubing and connected three peices together. Then we attached (with tape) three toddler spoons about 8-10 inches apart. She took 3 dolls and lines them up in a row. She took 3 bowls with her to complete the feeder.
Her Triplet Feeder allows a busy Mom or Dad to feed three babies at once, cutting the feeding time by 3! Everyone loved the idea. She told her teacher that she wishes we had thought of it 2 years ago when we had to feed the trio everything. She also told her teacher maybe this invention would have given us more time for her when the babies were little! (ouch!!)
Hope this helps!
Kim

Did the triplets come up with any ideas for this on their own? Being a teacher, I would assume that the thought process is probably more important/valuable to their teacher than the final product. Ask them what chores or things about their life they would like to change or make better. Can they come up with something that will help make that job easier?
For example, I HATE how my kids will scatter toys all over the floor....things will be spread out all across the room, making it more difficult to pick up. A good invention would be a tool that brings all these things together in order to make the pick-up process easier that works on carpet.
Fortunately, I fixed this problem by getting rid of carpet, having hardwood and tile floors, and an industrial-sized dustmop! If I only it wouldn't need picking up in the first place!
