#158, "potty trained, then reverting"

Our boy of the trio has been pottied trained, including nights since 2 1/2 yrs old. He even would get up and go in the middle of the night. It's been almost 18 months since they were trained. In the past month or two he has wet the bed 4-5 times a week and even had a few daytime accidents. He just seems to be getting lazy. I thought it was a growth spurt perhaps and he was just sleeping too soundly to get up, but the daytime problems don't back that theory. Anyone else had this happen and have some tips? We used our first pull-ups ever (out of all 4 kids) this week and it bugs me. I just can't wash all that bedding on a daily basis. The trio will be 4 on 3/3/04. Thanks.

I don't know if I have any advice but I can sympathize b/c one of my girls was trained too then her Daddy moved out and within 2 weeks she was back in diapers. It's been almost 2 months now and she just started wearing underwear again last week. She is still having daytime accidents and wears diapers at night I just let it go and didn't say anything to her about it. I left the decision up to her. My other DD refuses to even go IN the bathroom unless it's to take a bath. They turned 4 on Saturday. Has anything changed at your home? Sometimes things that seem minor to us as adults can be very upsetting to small children. Even something a simple as moving furniture around can throw off some kids.HTH

One of our boys (6 yrs old) had started to wet his bed. After the second time I got to wondering and it became clear what was going on. Dw had just left to visit relatives in Australia with Bryce, leaving me with Alex and Calder for 3 weeks. The first few days were pretty hectic, getting A&C off to school and me to work, and back again, etc..

Alex was missing his mom, and dad was always too busy. So, after that second time I slowed down and gave lots of hugs, told him I loved him, and we talked about mom being gone...and that was all it took. That and an enforced trip to the toilet right before bed.

Which was great because we had lots of fun going camping with some other families -- and a wet sleeping bag would have been a drag.

Good luck, wish you the best...

I have had this happen with two of mine. During the night, I had them wear pull ups. We did make a chart to track dry nights, and when they had 5 dry nights ina row they earned a reward. During the day I just got in the habbit of reminding them to go every so often. It seemed to help. Although my 4 yr old still has accidents every so often, but not nearly as often as before. (Could this have anything to do with the arrival of 3 new friends this past summer?)

Holy smokes - you have read my mind!!! One of our girls started to pee her pants whenever she pleased...I got "well, I needed to go, but I was watching TV" and other wonderful explanations...I am so frustrated as to what to do with her...and now her sister seems to be doing it too...AUGH!!!

We haven't even started trying at night yet...

They have been day-trained for months...

Deb,that may be your answer right there- she is so involved in her activity that she forgets or ignores the signals to go to the bathroom. I just hope mine changes her mind and is trained by kindergarten-I only have a year and a half left!

I only wish, then, that I could tap into her body so the signal she feels triggers a perfect mommy signal in my head so I can get her to the potty

I think it was fun at first, as she was the first one trained, and got alot of attention about it, and now it is old hat, and all three were getting the attention...AUGH!!!!!!!!!!!

Our kids will be heading to Kindergarten together - can you believe how quickly the next 1 1/2 years will go?

Just to give you a quick update. He absolutely hated Pull-Ups so we said - three dry nights in a row, and you can get out of them. That was about a week ago and we have had a dry bed since. We are more persistant with him going before bed and immediately when he wakes up - so not sure if he decided to be dry or it just worked out. But seems, for now, we're through that nasty spell. Thanks for your suggestions and support.
