#20836, "Monday Updates, November 15, 2008"

Thank goodness I'm doing the updates a day early. Things seem so hectic lately that I'm sure I'd forget tomorrow!

It's been a quiet week here. My "S" wound up with pneumonia. We caught it early so he spent 4 days resting with antibiotics. He's fine but still gets tired easily. He's not doing PE or anything too strenuous for a few weeks. I hope we can get through an entire week without a doctor appointment for any of the boys!

We're trying something new for dinner tonight. One of my boys read about leg of lamb in a book so we're trying it tonight. We haven't made it for a very long time and he's just can't wait! So funny he's exciting about leg of lamb!

I've been on a money-saving drive lately. I've switched to a lower-priced, pack-your-own supermarket that's saving us a lot. I've used coupons and I'm shopping deals. It takes some time but it's gotten easier over the past few weeks. I feel so uneasy over the economy although it hasn't affected us - yet! I think 2009 will be a difficult year for us.

Here are a few questions to get us going this week.

1. Have you started shopping for Thanksgiving dinner yet? If so, where do you store a turkey for more than a week?

2. What is your favorite Thanksgiving memory from your childhood?

3. How many people are at your Thanksgiving meal?

4. Have you started your Christmas shopping? Do you shop on Black Friday?

5. How often do you clean out your closets and drawers?

Have a great week!

Hello all, can you believe that it's the middle of November already? Nothing too exciting going on here. Had a few sniffles, but so far nothing too big. Thank heavens for that.

1. Have you started shopping for Thanksgiving dinner yet? If so, where do you store a turkey for more than a week? We have 2 freezers that we could store it in but haven't gotten one yet.

2. What is your favorite Thanksgiving memory from your childhood? I have a large extended family that all live fairly close tegether. I love those times when we all get together for the holidays. Tons of food and lots of cousins to play with.

3. How many people are at your Thanksgiving meal? About 10

4. Have you started your Christmas shopping? Do you shop on Black Friday? Nope, and try not too

5. How often do you clean out your closets and drawers? At least 1x a year, but I do a lot of weeding out as I do the laundry.

Hello Sharon,
Pneumonia is a drag! Two of dd's had it when they were younger and I had it a few years ago. I hope your ds gets back to his normal self quickly.

1. Have you started shopping for Thanksgiving dinner yet? If so, where do you store a turkey for more than a week? Not yet. Dsil is having it at her house this year and I just need to bring a dish and a slush drink. Anyone have any good slush recipes this wish to share?

2. What is your favorite Thanksgiving memory from your childhood? One in particular sticks in my head. We had my grandparents over and while we were doing dishes it started to snow heavily. Mom, grandma and myself went for a walk in the snow. It was a beautiful night!

3. How many people are at your Thanksgiving meal? Around 50.

4. Have you started your Christmas shopping? Yes! I am about 3/4 finished! Do you shop on Black Friday? No way! I stay home and do some baking. I HATE crowds! My dil goes every year and she is always kind enough to ask me if I want her to pick up anything. She loves it!

5. How often do you clean out your closets and drawers? Not as often as I should!

We had a busy weekend. We had our hardwood floors re-coated on Friday and had to spend the evening in a hotel! What a blast! This hotel was brand spankin' new with a water park. The suite we stayed in was beautiful---king sized bed for dh and I and the kids had there very own bedroom with 2 sets of bunk beds. Each bedroom had a tv, but the kids all climbed in bed with us (even our 14yo) and watched The Wizard of Oz. It was so cozy. We kicked them out when it was time to go to sleep though, lol!

I woke early on Saturday morning to open up the windows at the house. The fumes were so strong. We aired it out for over 4 hours and it was still horrible. Ds and dd had playdates scheduled for the afternoon, I sent the dog to a neighbor and my two other dd's and I went bumming' around town for a few hours. By Saturday night it was tolerable. But, holy crap, the DUST! I spent all day yesterday dusting walls, cabinets, windows, pictures and vacuuming the furniture. It was nasty. My poor vacuum worked overtime. But, the floors are beautiful!!!!

Have a great week everyone!

What waterpark were you at??
We are going to Splash Universe in Shipshewana this coming weekend while my sister is in town. Your description sounds just like the suites we reserved.
If so-
Will my 13 year old be rather bored?
He is going to the ND game for most of the day but then he and my nephew will be coming down for the night. I hear it is pretty small.

1. Have you started shopping for Thanksgiving dinner yet? If so, where do you store a turkey for more than a week?

My stepmom does all the cooking for Thanksgiving but since my DH has to work on T-day, I did buy a turkey so we can have a small dinner at home before the kids and I leave town to be with my family. I have an extra frig/freezer in my garage and the turkey is in there.

2. What is your favorite Thanksgiving memory from your childhood?

My stepmom goes all out. She prepares an amazing meal and we have shared the same foods each year for the past 20+ years.

3. How many people are at your Thanksgiving meal?

25 or so

4. Have you started your Christmas shopping? Do you shop on Black Friday?

Yes. I have done stockings and a few gifts for each. Unsure about Black Friday. I may venture out.

5. How often do you clean out your closets and drawers?

I am so bad on this one. I do occasionally pay a housekeeper to come to do chore for me since I hate it so much.

1. shopping for Thanksgiving dinner yet? No -- the boys and I are going to my parents in San Clemente.

2. favorite Thanksgiving memory? Well, 30 years ago when I was but a child of 24, I backpacked by myself in the Trinity Alps and camped in the snow -- I had two cans of turkey meat for my Thanksgiving meal.

3. How many people are at your Thanksgiving meal? Probably nine.

4. Have you started your Christmas shopping? Do you shop on Black Friday? No, and definitely no.

5. How often do you clean out your closets and drawers? I did not even do my drawers when we moved in June!LOL! But the closets got done.

I mowed the lawns today, if that counts for anything. Looking forward to a week off with the boys -- dw is staying home and working. We'll head east to the east side of the Sierras, then head south. Camp at Alabama Hills (near Lone Pine), then thru the Mojave and over the mountains on Hwy 15, then south to my parents in San Clemente.

Hi Sharon,

Oh my goodness, I hope "S" feels better real quick!
Sickeness is running crazy around our parts as well. UgH!

1. A little bit, and I already bought the "Tofurky." It doesn't take up as much room. We are ordering a pre-cooked turkey for those who eat it because our ovens are on the fritz (great timing!)!

2. I enjoyed spending Thanksgiving with my granny. She was a really great cook, and we played games all night long- what a blast!

3. This year I am hosting, and we are having us plus 9 others.

4. A little bit, and definitely not going out on Black Friday.

5. I like them clean, so I try to keep-up on them at least OIAW.

Have a nice week/end, everyone,
7mozz

1. Have you started shopping for Thanksgiving dinner yet? If so, where do you store a turkey for more than a week?

I won't do shopping for Thanksgiving until Monday but since we are going to my sister-in-laws for lunch and my sister's for dinner, I don't have to buy a turkey anyway. (I may get one to make on Friday- I love turkey leftovers!!)

2. What is your favorite Thanksgiving memory from your childhood?

We always go to mass on Thanksgiving morning (at least I go, my husband stays home with whichever kid feels lazy and watches the Macy Parade). For the ontercessions, everyone is invited up to say what they are thankful for. Many bring tears to my eyes, some evoke laughter. One year a young woman, maybe 20 said she was thankful for her parents putting up with her during her turbulent teenage years. The same year, my nephew, who was about 5, stated he was thankful for dinosaurs.
I guess that isn't a childhood memory, but it is my favorite.

3. How many people are at your Thanksgiving meal? lunch 14, dinner 20

4. Have you started your Christmas shopping? Do you shop on Black Friday?

I haven't started yet but plan to get gift cards for all the godparents this Friday.
Sometimes I go out on Black Friday. This year I hope to score 4 MP3 with videos and 4 feather comforters.

5. How often do you clean out your closets and drawers?

When I can no longer find anything in them!

Sharon, hoping for better health for your whole family over the holidays and next year.

Hi Sharon and everyone:

I have been so incredibly busy these days. Ugh, isn't life supposed to slow down at some point?

1. I do have many of the dinner ingredients purchased already. I bought a frozen turkey and so did dh. Oh well.

2. Honestly, I don't have one.

3. We are still trying to figure that out. People will be out of town, working and not well enough to come. Could be just 9 of us.

4. I have only purchased about 7 small gifts. I DO NOT shop on black Friday, but my kids all do. One of my sons asked for tires for his truck for Christmas. Oh, they will look nice under the tree.

5. Twice a year for the closet. Drawers usually a little more often.

mom to:

Jason 30 The Chief Meteorologist
Chris 30 The College Student
Tim 30 The college grad

I love hearing their versions of their childhood memories!!
