#20862, "Hairy Arms"

Hi Everyone,
My daughters are pretty fair skinned, but have medium/dark brown hair - including the hair on their arms. They are "coming of age" and are becomimg self-conscious about the hair on their arms. Do any of you know of an effective way to eliminate the hair on their arms?

Thanks in advance.

Depending on how old you DDs are you can bleach or wax them, I wouldn't shave it as it might make it thicker.

My little blonde one is...well, to put it delicately...quite hirsute. She had this VERY LONG FUR on her arms, curling into sweet (hahahah!) little blonde tendrils at the elbows. YIKES.

I went to Bed, Bath & Beyond and got one of the little tiny battery operated "de-fuzzers" -- which is what we call what we do to the wee wildebeast. It is about five inches long and has a little light in it and requires a tiny AAA battery. It's actually a tiny shaver for upper lip and those kinds of concerns. I don't know the real name for it. It costs about $9.00 and works very, very well -- even on tiny little hirsute legs when the ballerina refuses to "tight up" because it hurts her legs (e.g., rubs the fur the wrong way, folks)!

So, mum's the word, okay? Caeleigh would be mortified if, at ten she learned that I'd discussed her little (er, rather mammoth) issue with fur on-line. 'Hope this helps.

Oh, and while I loved Kim's suggestion, frankly my tiny dancer has blonde, blonde, blonde fur. Trust me, if your girls have thick long hair on their arms, bleaching blonde is not going to help. And, there's no way my little broad would have allowed me to "wax" anything! OUCH. Good luck and go invest your $9.00. I think you're going to like the results.

ETA: I tried using an electric razor on her and she yelped and claimed that it hurt. And, there was no way that I was going to try to use a regular razor on a 4 year old. BTW, we have never called it "shaving" as this is one discussion I really don't want my uninvited public (see other post) to feel like I need advice on.

What a good mom you are to deal with this "hairy" issue straight on! It's no fun being the hairy-armed girl. I remember having dark hairy legs and trying to figure out how to tell my mom that I needed to shave. It really bothered me. I still shave daily, even if no one is seeing my legs. Hate the hairy look.

I think Cat had a great idea. Waxing is way to painful for a little child. Bleaching is just going to give your girls blond hair but it will be noticeable. Definitely go with the shaving route!

There is a mom at my kids school. She's very nice but has an amazing growth of dark hair on her arms. Really bad. It's all I can notice during the warm weather when she wears short sleeves!

Thank you ladies! I will try the "de-fuzz" route. My girls will be appreciative, I'm sure!

Naturally, "mums the word!"

Take care everyone!
