#21198, "pre-teen time ALREADY???"

My girls are 9- they had a birthday in January. Hooray! It's along way form 24 weeks and 1 pound. One of my girls seems to be turning into a teenager- at least emotionally. She's starting to get modest about her body- that's good. She wants to wear tank tops under her clothes all the time and that's fine. I bought her more. I asked her if she wanted a bra ( not that she needs one yet!)and she just about lost it! LOL I'm sure she was embarrassed. Ok, so I dropped the matter. What the issue is, is she seems to have permanent PMS. She's always crying or crabby or screaming at me, telling me I'm the worst mom in the world, she wants a new mom, etc. Then 10 mins later she's fine again, writes me love notes, tells me I'm the best mom in the world. Lots of doors are getting slammed and feet stomped by this little girl. Her triplet sister is not acting this way. YET......
has my baby girl started puberty?! If so, I'm never gonna survive the 4 of them being teenagers!!

Sounds absolutely normal to me! By age 9, the hormones have already started. Many kids start puberty way earlier than my generation. And hormonal changes can occur before the physical signs are present.

One of my triplets started puberty at 10. He grew 8 inches in 1 year and was quite moody. After talking with other moms, I learned his moods were definitely normal and that the girls were much worse than the boys! It starts earlier with girls than boys!

In another year, I'll have 4 teenage boys. Not a good combo - puberty and perimenopause!

OH YEAH, It is (sadly) very normal.
My girls are now 12 but all 3 started with the mood swings at different times.
Elizabeth was the earliest, Rose the "meanest" and Maggie the most surprising.
All have some breast developement but no periods.
They are horrified if I mention bras, periods, boys, maturing etc. and tho' they all wear bras, none will shop with me.

I wish I could say it will pass quickly, but I think we need to batten down the hatches for a long storm.

In July I will have 4 teenagers.

Robin isn't ready fora bra but she wants to wear camisoles and tank tops. She's concerned about her "chest hanging out" even when it's not. LOL Poor girl, she's flat as a board! Both girls are smaller than peers too. Thanks!

Hey Korrie,
Good to see you hangin' around here again!

My oldest dd is 14yo and she started getting touchy around that age.
Hate to say it, but it gets worse. She's a good kid but, like you said, one minute she's a delight, the next minute I want to clock her. I keep telling myself that she is a normal, healthy teenage girl.

My other dd is 11yo and she is following in her sisters foot steps. She has turned into a very stubborn young lady and has an attitude.
Katie is starting to get a little "stinky" but still has that wonderful laid back Down Syndrome attitude. Hopefully, she'll keep that throughout her teen years!LOL!

My ds, on the other hand, is soooo laid back. He doesn't wig out over the little things that the girls freak over. Either he takes after dh, or it's just a boy thing.

Good luck.

thanks for the advice! Henry is 6 now (my baby with Down syndrome)and is in kindergarten and he's turning out to be a stubborn little turkey! LOL He wants to be just like his big brother- bad words and all. eek! Good thing Henry has speech issues- you can't tell if he's saying a bad word or not. ha ha
Hopefully the boys won't be as moody as my girls.

Hi Korrie

My 10 year old DD also is having pretty strong mood swings. One minute everything is fine and the next she becomes possessed. I figured it was hormone related and even had the pediatrician do a puberty check at her 10 year-old check-up. She shows no signs of development - flat chest etc. but the dr. did state we could probably expect some changes in the coming year. My DD is also smaller than her peers - many of whom are already developing and/or wearing bras/camis. My DD has not asked for one yet.

We just told her about puberty after her dr. appt. I also bought her the American Girl Care and Keeping of You book so now she seems to understand the changes she will face shortly. Last weekend she even told me she had "period cramps" when it was really just a stomach ache - guess she has been reading her book. I just bought the book "Are You There God Its Me Margaret" for her but I want to read it (again) first to make sure it is appropriate for her age. My DD is an avid reader - her reading level is light years above her age - but she is still very immature when it comes to certain issues.

I figure by the time my youngest DD (4) hits puberty I will be deep in the throws of menopause. I feel bad for the boys in the house.

Jenni
mom of triplets (10) plus one.

Thanks Jenni! I have a couple of books for the kids and I shared one with the girls a few months ago. They were so grossed out by the idea of a period! LOL I just have to sit down with them again and have a chat . I'm so not ready for this! LOL

My oldest has been a breeze but my just turned 12 dd is a handful. She has always been more emotional but she has perfected a scowl and eye roll that can stop my dh in his tracks (even after 24 years with this high maintanence girl ) Most of the time she is darling but it seems that her coping skills are lower. Even little stuff cause a meltdown and she seems less tolerant of the little kids.

LOL!Robin has that "tone" in her voice already...the " you are such an idiot mom" tone..... She can freak out if one of her brothers looks at her wrong or chews funny. She freaked at the littlest one because he BREATHED on her....*sigh* My other DD,Abby, is starting the meltdowns a bit more frequently now. With her I'm not sure when it's girly meltdowns or Asperger meltdowns. Either way, with her a hug usually solves it. Robin has to scream and slam stuff first.
