#21556, "Anyone familiar with Mississippi State University?"
|
I posted this question on the main forum so this is a cross post, I guess.
One of my triplets has been accepted to a grad program at Mississippi State University. He has been trying for many weeks to get info on housing, financial aid, classes and just everything he needs to know. He has not had much luck with people returning his phone calls. We are in MN so he can't just zip on over to the campus and check things out. I hate to see him head down there with all of his belongings and then find out things are not in order for him to start classes. Worse yet, I am afraid he won't have a place to live. He could start in a hotel, but then would all of his stuff be stolen out of his car?
You see where my mind is going with all of this. The university people told him to just head down there and things would be fine. Um, ya, but where does he live??????? They keep evading that question.
Anyone here know anything about this university that could help us out? mom to: Ryan 32 The Lawyer Jason 30 The Chief Meteorologist Chris 30 The College Student Tim 30 The college grad

I wish I had some info for you but I know very little about Mississipi State. Can you google some "opinions" or "info" about the campus and maybe get some new insights? I know there are a lot of college websites that allow students to give opinions so that may be a source of info.
Can he visit the campus before he actually enrolls?

How are things going for your son? I'm a little late on this, but we've had computer "issues" lately. I went to school about 30 miles down the road from Starkville. I think most grad. students live off campus. You've probably figured that all out by now. It is a small town when MSU isn't in session. A girl I knew in high school lives there now, and she calls it "Mayberry" I think or something like that.
Another friend from hs just took her daughter down last week to start her freshman year. I just remember it being a great town, that I visited as often as possible. That might have something to do with me going to the Women's Univ. down the road!
Let me know how things are going for him.

He finally got housing down there. He had to email someone who was in charge, because he couldn't get any responses from the office people. Once he emailed this person and stated how much trouble he had had, he received a response back in 30 minutes with a housing option. Interesting how there was nothing, but then a nice place just happened to come available.
He seems happy down there. He likes his classes and is meeting new people. He did send me a picture of his new roommate though, a very large cockroach!!!
He would fit right in if there was a Mayberry atmosphere. He is a homebody type of guy and is very friendly. mom to: Ryan 32 The Lawyer Jason 30 The Chief Meteorologist Chris 30 The College Student Tim 30 The college grad
