Happy New Year to everyone.

Another year is upon us and hopefully it will be a good one. I hope you all survived the holiday season without too many bumps. Ours went well. We almost cancelled Christmas Day due to really poor weather. We had to drive to my brother's place which is an hour away. The roads weren't good and much snow had fallen. That was the few days where we were supposed to get 12-20 inches of snow. But at the last minute my dh said, "Oh, let's try it", so we did.

Our gifts to each other this year were remote car starters. So far, I love mine. It will even be nice in the summer when I can start the car and get it cooling down before I get in. It has a range of 1 mile. I am trying to get the kinks out of it, though. We have the remotes programmed to work on both cars. Yesterday, I was trying to unlock mine, but I actually unlocked his!

My son is heading back to college in MS Monday morning. It is always hard to let them go. But, this is a masters program so he only has 3 quarters left. He is doing what he has always wanted to do, so I am happy for him.

My other son scared us last Monday. He was driving home from work on the highway, during rush hour and his wheel passed in front of him. He was able to get the truck over to the shoulder and the front end went crashing down. So his truck has been in the shop all week. We are back to playing the car shuffle.

I just got a call last night that one of my closest friends lost her Mom to an accident on New Year's Day. Not a great way to start out the new year.

Well, Christmas is over and in my mind spring is on its way. Now if we could just get the temp above 0, and get rid of the snow!!

Happy New Year everyone!

Kathy, those remote car starters sound wonderful. Especially with all that cold weather. My whole family was shivering at the temps were only in the 50s! We're California wimps....

We had a nice holiday break. The boys had a lot of homework, especially my high schooler. We did go to SF to see A Christmas Carol and to Ana Nuevo to see the elephant seals. Lots of movies.

My dad turned 70 yesterday and we went out for a nice lunch. Teppan cooking (Japanese cook-on-the-table). A very nice time! My son drove home the whole way. Still working on keeping in the middle of the highway lane. I think I have a few more gray hairs from when we were next to a concrete barrier. But we're all home safe and sound!

Kathuy, glad your son was able to maneuver off the road when he lost his wheel. No injuries, I hope.

Condolences to your friend who lost her Mom. Hope the rest of 2010 is better.

Off to wake the kids!

Welcome 2010!

We had a busy yet relaxing school break. Dh had the whole week off and I only had to work 2 full days.

We had Christmas Eve with my family. My grandma, parents and brother came for dinner and then played Apples to Apples, which was a hoot with my grandma! So much fun! Christmas morning was relaxing, but that afternoon was chaos! It usually is as dh's family is 50 people and counting. I wouldn't have it any other way though.

I spent my New Years Eve fixing dbil's computer. It's a dinosaur and for some stupid reason the printer wasn't printing. I could not figure out what the h&ll was wrong with it and ended up uninstalling and reinstalling it without a software disc. So I had to download it off the manufactures site. What a PITA because, like I said, their computer is a dinosaur and it took forever to download. But, I did get it working!

I'm gearing up to begin my semester of classes. I have a pretty big load and I am wondering how I will fit it all in with my work schedule and general family stuff. Should be interesting but I have to get it into my head that I am going to do it because I have no other choice! Thankfully, the next two semesters are fairly light and I should have no problem.

Have a wonderful week everyone!

Happy New Year too

Thankfully we are all well. That darn H1N1 just about did me in - kids too. But we are all fine now.

DH is STILL jobless and we are really struggling financially, but we are moving forward with the EEO complaint from the former position and he just finished his 3 hour testimony, so we are hoping to a positive end to a nightmare-ish situation in the next couple of months. Meanwhile he is still seeking another job which could mean a major move out of state. Just no one is hiring during the holidays.

I am moving forward with my blog again, which seems to help ME vent a bit.

Holidays were very low key and very frugal. So glad they are over and we are all back to our routines.

Oh - trip to the orthodontist today for inital consults. YIKES! One is a definite 100% NOW, one is a 100% in the next year (is a bit delayed dentally - my overachiever did NOT like being told he was delayed! LOL.) and the other is a possibility after he loses a few more teeth - so back in 6 months for a re-eval for him.

I think I need a THIRD job now.

I can relate! My oldest is having her braces removed in two weeks, finally! Two of the triplets will need to be evaluated soon and I am breaking out into sweats just thinking about that! Unfortunately with the third child, there isn't an ortho in our area that will even TOUCH her. She has Downs and I am going to try and find someone in the state that will hopefully, at least take a look at her.

Glad to hear that H1N1 is out of your house! It hit ME pretty hard. In todays paper it stated that our county had another confirmed death from H1N1. This person did not have any underlying health issues. Scary.

Happy New Year Everyone!

I don't post often, but now that the new year is here I'm hoping to do that more often...not quite a New Year's resolution, but more of a New Year's intention.

Quick update...Max, Sam and Lily are now 16 (17 in Feb!) and are juniors in high school. Sam is the only one with his drivers license, and with a car (that he bought with his own money!). Max has his drivers permit, but has yet to finish the number of hours driving before taking the license exam. Lily has no interest in driving...she's happy being chaperoned by her friends for now (I keep telling her that won't last). They all are doing well in school, have after school jobs, and are still involved in music. I have so much to be grateful for!

Lea is in the 8th grade, and next year will join her siblings at the high school! She is also doing well in school, and is very involved in music and...(big surprise) DRAMA!!!

Don't you all think that time just flies like crazy once they hit school?

I remember a particularly bad moment when my triplets were five months old-I was sitting on the floor, and they were in their bouncy seats, and we were all CRYING...it was just one of those overwhelming times. I remember looking at the clock, and thinking...(tick...tick...tick...)"WHOEVER SAYS THAT THIS TIME GOES BY FAST MUST BE INSANE, OR THEY LIVE IN AN ALTERNATE REALITY!!!!" Can you relate?!! Then, suddenly...they are juniors in high school. Life is crazy.

I wish you all a very healthy, happy, WONDERFUL 2010!!!

Take Care,
Mare

I've never tried to upload a photo...so here goes! If it's the right one, it's Max, Lea, Sam and Lily from Thankgiving. If it's not the right one, I'll be totally embarrassed.

Beautiful pictures Mare.

I remember you from many years ago on a HOM parenting board. My tweens were toddlers then. Times flies.

Happy New Year everyone!

We had a great (and white) Christmas in Spokane, WA, and a wet New Years Eve here at home. The boys stayed up for the first time to welcome in the New Year. I think dw went to bed by 8:30 if not sooner.

So, this is the decades of the Teens -- three months from now I will have a household full of teenagers.

The boys and I, along with my good friend and three of his grandchildren, took a hike in the Redwoods on Jan 2. One of my friend's grandkids is an 11 year old girl. It was about a 4 or 5 mile hike, and it was fun to watch the dance-of-life two of my boys and the 11 year old girl did for much of the hike. They may not have been aware of it -- the constant shifting of positions, who was walking next to who and all that. Shade of things to come!

Our holidays were fairly uneventful. Jacob got an electric guitar for Christmas so New Years Eve he decided to ring in the new year with a little music. The other two slept through his concert but DH and I had no trouble at all hearing it from the other end of the house. Rebecca starts her sewing class this Sunday (I am counting on her to teach me what she learns!) Her first project will be a cat bed for her cat. Daniel's New Year's resolution is to keep our property safe from dangerous creatures like moles, rabbits, and crows. My New Year's resolution is to keep him out of the emergency room!
We have their 10th b-day tomorrow so I could relate to Mare's post about how fast they grow up I love seeing them mature and become such fun individuals but at the same time I feel like it is happening too fast. My one son is becoming so hard to get a hug and kiss from, but it seems like it was just yesterday when he was fighting with his brother and sister to sit in my lap for a story. My daughter seems to think the older she gets, the less I know. She loves to tell me "you don't get it mom." I have a feeling I'll be hearing that more and more from all three of them. We decided to skip the big b-day party and take a family trip instead. We'll probably go to the beach for a couple days next weekend, but I have yet to make a hotel reservation. I think my procrastination in making definite plans may reflect my secret desire to put off their growing up. Ugh, I think I just need a good day to go through all the baby pics, cry a little, then maybe read a few posts from the sleep deprived new moms to remember how good I really have it right now.
~~~~Happy 2010~~~~
I just wanted to say that my son is also an electric guitar kid who always plugged into a small radio and we made the mistake of getting him an amp this Christmas. Now my furniture in my living room vibrates.
Well, I haven't posted on TC for about 5 years (I know that because my old sig said our son was 7 and he is 12 now.) WOW! I read once in a while, and am hoping to get back on here more often again. TC was once my lifeline to the world and then life got so busy and other stuff happened and I needed to fly under the TC radar for a while.
Kathy - I love reading all your stuff. Knowing who you are in real life makes it fun to keep up with your boys. men?
So, this is my new beginning. My kiddos will be 10 in March - time flies. We are dealing with one daughter and sensory issues, one son with ADD and vision issues, but I consider them all to be healthy and fantastic kids. Nothing we cant overcome.
I like the vet board because it isn't all about the kids - yep, moms count here
Glad to be back!
Do you have your room booked for convention yet? I booked mine months ago. Now I am just waiting for the registration info to arrive.
I like this board also. You are so right. We are actually women here with lives, not just moms.
Haven't booked specifically, but I am working under the assumption that our club got a block as soon as the info was out there...I hope I can make it this year. Last year was a no go - April was insane for our family, and I missed it.
My kids did get old"er" but i didn't - keep that in mind.
