#22028, "Monday Updates, March 15, 2010"

Hello everyone. It's mid-March already. How come the days sometimes drag but the months are flying by!

Had a busy weekend. Bunko Friday night, rock climbing competition on Saturday, and a brunch on Sunday for some family birthdays. I did all the cooking and it was exhausting. No cooking dinner tonight. Everyone will fend for themselves with leftovers.

My dh has been working for weeks on custom closet organizers for our master bedroom closet. When we remodeled almost SIX years ago, I told the contractor to just put up a rod and a shelf. Couldn't think anymore after months of decision making.

For Christmas, my dh said he'd build the closet organizer. He's extremely handy and a perfectionist. So our clothes are being stored all over the house while he puts his handiwork together. He's worked for weeks pre-building most of it from scratch in the garage. I'm just hoping to get some clothes hung up by tonight! It looks absolutely fabulous and we could never have afforded to have someone build something so sturdy and custom.

Here are a few questions for us this week.

1. Did you celebrate St. Patrick's Day?

2. How many miles are on your vehicles?

3. What sports are your kids doing this season?

4. When is your spring break?

5. What's your best practical advice can you pass on the new triplet families?

Have a great week.

Good morning - I had a four day weekend with no kids, so I slept in, went out for lunch, napped, went out for dinner, sand bagged, went to IKEA, Bon Jovi Concert, and then slept It was just what I needed just when I needed it.

1. Did you celebrate St. Patrick's Day? Nope - other than wearing green to school on Wednesday. We are kicking into full time flood work, so most people wont even notice a holiday.

2. How many miles are on your vehicles? 87,000 on our van 140,000 on our truck.

3. What sports are your kids doing this season? None - unless ballet counts.

4. When is your spring break? We just had four days off and around Easter we have another 4 day weekend.

5. What's your best practical advice can you pass on the new triplet families? Follow your gut insticts and dont hold that fact that there are 3 of them against them - let them explore even if it is tons of work for you. That goes from crawling all the way through - running to three/four + different sets of activities gets really old really fast, but they are all individuals.

Good morning everyone.

A very busy week last week. We had "2 hour delays" twice last week due to fog. Talk about throwing a wrench into your day!

I'm on spring break this week. THANK GOD. I don't have any special plans other than to catch up on some household things.

Oldest dd and I saw the move "Remember Me" yesterday. It's a MUST SEE! Most touching movie I have seen in a very long time!

Last weekend, dh and I started to casually look for a new car. Well, by Monday night dh was shaking hands with a car salesman. We picked up our Nissan Altima on Thursday night! And guess what? It is MY vehicle. MINE, MINE, MINE! We are keeping the van because in July we will have three drivers.

1. Did you celebrate St. Patrick's Day? Not yet.

2. How many miles are on your vehicles? My van has 115,000, the suburban has around 75,000 (?) and MY Altima has almost 30,000.

3. What sports are your kids doing this season? track

4. When is your spring break? Mine is this week, the kids have a few days off around Easter

5. What's your best practical advice can you pass on the new triplet families? Follow a schedule and take offered help.

Have a great week everyone!

2. How many miles are on your vehicles? my van 140,000, kids van 190,000, kids car 227,000.

3. What sports are your kids doing this season? ds Golf. girls nothing.

4. When is your spring break? kids are on Spring break April 2 through April 9.

5. What's your best practical advice can you pass on the new triplet families? you think it's stressful now? just wait till their senior year in high school! just joking...kinda.

The girls got their little accura legend stuck in a muddy field last night at 9pm!!! The same dd driving last night has also backed into 2 cars in parking lots in the past 3 weeks. She is now grounded from driving for awhile. Calgon take me away!

Oh jeez....things to come for me! My oldest has her temp liscence right now and I have been a basket case! When driving once with dh, she did not stop at a red light while making a right-hand turn. She pulled right in front of someone! Her comment: "Well that's a stupid place to put a stoplight!" Geez. She drove my new car yesterday and I about had a heart attack!

good luck. Be happy it's just one with her permit to ease you into this phase. So far my other two kids haven't had any incidents driving....yet. No wonder the insurance jumps so high when they turn 16!

That's a good way of looking at it! Only two of my triplets will be driving also. We asked our insurance agent about what our rates would be once dd has her regular liscence and I freaked at the thought of having two more! Ack! Full-time employment is in my future, lol!

I cannot believe that I complained about the cost of diapers and formula! Peanuts compared to all of these big-kid expenses. And it's only going to get worse.......

Yay!! It's Monday...I don't think I've ever typed those words before but I'm so excited because this is my last week subbing at the middle school. It's been a long 6 weeks... I've been a SAHM since the triplets were born and just started subbing for the school system a few days a week plus taking college courses. My dh hates it that I've been working full time lately...I think he is as excited if not more excited than me that the 6 weeks has come to an end. I still get laundry done but it doesn't make it into the closets and drawers and the house has been messy... just those little things. My dh has had to do a ton more around the house too. I tell you...I really have more respect for working moms now after working full time for 6 weeks. I just don't know how they do it!! I think from here on out subbing 2 or 3 days/week is my max.

I really need to start packing we are moving April 1st... so far I haven't packed a single thing. Oh dear!!! My 14 yr old son had his first Show Choir Competition on Saturday and they took 1st place!! It is so much fun to watch him...I see a totally different side of him when he's on stage. LoVe iT!!

1. St Patricks Day - We aren't going to do much...I will probably make some green eggs and green pancakes for dinner. The kids will get a kick outta that. My dh will be out of town on business Tuesday, Wed, and Thurs this week

2. Miles on vehicles- My van has 74,000 and my dh has a company car with 66,000. Once his co car reaches 75,000 he gets a new one so that will be nice. He found out the other day that the new one is going to be the Nissan Altima....currently he has a Ford Taurus. How do you like yours Gina?

3. Sports- I'm trying to talk my 14 yr old son into trying Cross Country... he just recently started running but he doesn't think he has been running long enough to do CC. We shall see.

4. Spring break- the kids are out all of next week. I'm taking this quarter off... so no classes for me til Fall.

5. Advice- sleep when you can, take tons of pics, and ask for help if you need it.

1. St. Patrick's Day? No

2. How many miles 120,000 and 244,000

3. this season? Tennis

4. spring break? Mine, this week. The boys, 4/19 to 4/23

5. best practical advice -- keep talking.

Hello all! The boys and I had a great day yesterday! A wet muddy bicycle ride out to some great rocks on the beach and then back again. We passed within 30 feet of a herd of elk, checked out three waterfalls, dodged blackberry vines and stinging nettle, and tried (unsuccessfully) not to stall-out in deep mud.

Not all was well all the time. With three very different boys, no one activity will thrill or amaze all three at any one time. One will always be "bored", one will throw himself into it at full speed, and one will ask what planet are we on today. Alex was almost to tears he was so mad that he got his shoe wet (at the first creek of the day), and why didn't anyone tell him that it was going to be muddy and so on and so on, and do we have to go any further? By halfway he was blasting through the water and having a ball. One just has to ride out the complaints, there are other issues involved, and if one just keeps it positive and refrain from comments that make it worse, it eventually does get better.

But a good time was had by all and we got a lot of exercise (it was only 5 miles or so round trip) on an incredible sunny Humboldt County winter's day. Took full advantage of the that new extra hour of daylight!

Vaughn

Hi Sharon and All,

YAY...closet space is so essential and way too under-rated. Good for you! I'm jealous!

The last week has been crazy, with all the flooding here. I'm fortunate to have not had to deal with anything other than annoying detours to my house. I'm very grateful for that!

1. Did you celebrate St. Patrick's Day?
That's tomorrow, and, no...even though we're mostly Irish, it's just another day.

2. How many miles are on your vehicles?
Over 200,000 on the camry, and 160,000 on the sienna.

3. What sports are your kids doing this season?
My kids aren't into sports, but they are wicked into music...lots of
jazz-tons of traveling!

4. When is your spring break? Our spring break is in April.

5. What's your best practical advice can you pass on the new triplet families.

Don't take anyone's word as the end all and be all. I missed out on over an entire year of free formula because I was told that we wouldn't qualify for WIC. It wasn't until my daughter qualified for special services that we found out that we could have gotten many benefits-including free formula-that I didn't know about. Many $$$$$$ lost, but we learned.

Take Care,
Mare

Hi all - it is almost time for next weeks updates and I am finally getting around to this one!

1. Did you celebrate St. Patrick's Day?
just gave the boys (including dh) Irish underwear and socks - they wear they Ireland rugby shirts and big Irish hats! Ate some green food (no corn beef and cabbage for us - we are veg.)

2. How many miles are on your vehicles?
140000 and 36000

3. What sports are your kids doing this season?
Thankfully we decided not to do baseball this year (they never liked it too much and neither do dh and I- and dh had to coach) so after a busy winter with lots of skiing, they now have some free time, just music lessons and finishing up an aeronautic program next week. We hope to do more hiking this Spring with the free time

4. When is your spring break?
Week after Easter

5. What's your best practical advice can you pass on the new triplet families?
Don't sweat the small stuff - it goes fast so savor each phase and take lots of pics/video!

Boys and I are heading out of town for Sat-Sun - have a retreat and then bachlorette dinner for my niece (the whole day is a bachlorette Spa day which I will miss b/c of the retreat - this whole getting married thing is way bigger than when we were married!). Dh is having a "card party " with the guys - invites tons of guys from town - all ages - ends up being a nice eclectic mix of folks. (and he does a great job cleaning up!)

Have a great weekend everyone!

Hi all.

Well, Monday March 15th, was our 35th wedding anniversary. It seems so odd to sit back each year and remember what our wedding day was like. I always compare the weather, since we are in MN and March is so unpredictable. This year it was unseasonably warm.

This weekend we are packing up my son for his move to sunny Florida. I have such mixed feelings about this. I want him to go and be happy, but yet I want to hold onto him and never let him go. For some reason, this move for him scares me.

1. We did not celebrate St. Patrick's Day. Not too sure why, we just didn't.

2. My vehicle has 66,000 miles on it. Dh's car has about 70,000 and our third vehicle that our son is driving is over 100,000.

3. My kids still do play sports. I have a pool pro (billiards), a couple of softball players and golfers.

4. My spring break is coming up around the 31st of March.

5. Don't sweat the small stuff.
