#22668, "The economy hits home once again"

My son who moved to FL 15 months ago called me last night to let me know that he lost his job. He is one of the many affected by the Perkins/Marie Callender bankruptcy. Doesn't matter how great of a manager you are. If your store is closed, you are gone. He has been with them for 9 years.

I think I might have all of my kids here to take a complete family photo for Christmas cards this summer!!

Wow Kathy.
So sorry to hear this. It's a story heard far too often lately.
9 years used to mean something to a company. Now it only comes down to the company's pocket.

I only hope he can get some great references and something else comes along soon.

I'm so sorry to hear that your son lost his job. It's a terrible thing these days. Nine years is a long time. Are they moving back with you or will he try to stay in Florida for a bit?

This is my single son. I think he will be back here in about 2-3 weeks or less. His apartment lease is up so he will either have to sign a 1 year lease or move. Funny that Perkins had just offered to give him extra rent money to keep him down there, and then this. He loved working for Perkins, so this is sad for him.

Sorry to hear that, Kathy.

My nephew was managing a Circuit City store when they went under. Took awhile, but he is managing a Best Buy now. But it is a tough place to be with a young family to support.

I wish him luck!

Well, no job prospects yet.

There is a friend of his who owns a number of businesses and wants my son to run one of them for him. But, my son doesn't want anything to do with it. It would be a bar, and my son does not want to deal with the liquor. I do support him in that decision.
