It's been a while since I was here! Kids just turned 11 and are starting 5th grade this fall. Everyone is doing great. Rees receives some SPED services, but he's in a regular classroom and all 3 are doing so well. Rees' health has been fabulous since 2007, praise God! The kids are huge- in the 80-95% for height and will soon be taller than me. I went back to work 3 years ago as a RN in our Level III NICU. Such a rewarding job. My DH just found out he is being transferred to Dallas, TX unless he can find an internal transfer here in ATL ASAP. Lots of excitement around here. If anyone has any advice about Dallas (areas to live, schools, etc), please let me know.

Thanks!
Denise

I do remember you! I'm a old-timer here. I always loved your screen name!

Wow, how can it be that your kids are 11. It's a weird time when your kids start getting taller than you. I'm the "short" one in the family when surrounded by my boys. My oldest is 18 and off to college in the fall. My triplets are 14 and starting high school in the fall.

I don't have any tips on Dallas. I'm a Northern CA gal. But I wish you lots of luck on the transfer.

I'm on Facebook more than I'm around here. Feel free to friend me - Sharon Whaley.

Take care!

Denise,

I have 11 y/o b/b/b that are starting 5th grade next week.

We currently love in STL, but I lived in the D/FW area most of my life.
As far as schools, the first thing to do is to determine what part of Dallas your DH will be working in. D/FW is a very sprawling area and traffic can be be really bad.

If you let me know what part of DFW he will be working in, I'll be glad to share what I know.

Thanks,
Melissa

Hi, Denise! I remember you! We were expecting at the same time...I have BGG. We are in the DFW area, but I read your post on the main forum and you'd be an hour or more from us if you're looking at North Dallas (I think that's right, isn't it? Plano, Richardson, area?). Lots of good areas over that way...good schools, nice neighborhoods.

You'll want to ask specifically which school district your potential new home is in (Texas school district layouts are not very logical--you can live in one city and be in another's school district because of the boundary lines) and research it heavily online. Education cuts have been HUGE this year and lots of special programs have been cut--not sped, but just ask the school district lots of questions to be sure you are getting what you need. Neighboring districts can vary widely, so you'll want to investigate your options.

Glad to hear you are all doing well! Good to "see" you!

Hey Denise,
welcome back! Sounds like the kids are doing great. Time flies...I remember, vaguely, when you were the newbie on TC and possibly the parents place HOM site.
Are you guys definitely moving? We're still in Dallas area, northern suburbs. Allen/McKinney/Frisco/Fairview is probably the closest to the Alpharetta/Roswell demographics. Not sure what you're looking for in a community, but I would begin the search there or near airport in Southlake/Grapevine areas.

My kiddie begin middle school and high school this year after four years of homeschool!

Take care and good luck with the pending move,

Tracey (aka Peanut)
