#22692, "Monday Updates, July 25, 2011"

Good morning everyone! It's been a while since we've had a general posting so let's try it today. No questions, just tell us what you have been up to this month.

It's been crazy busy around here. All 4 boys are on swim team and it's a little bittersweet. This is the last year for my oldest son since he's 18. After 10 years, he's putting his swim gear behind him. He's had an amazing season and it's been so much fun. My trio have loved this season. It's coming to an end next week with Championships and they are all hoping to place in their events.

My oldest "C" is heading to college. We've had a 2-day orientation and reality is setting in. We're buying dorm supplies and looking at laptops. He's going to an amazing university and it will be a great experience for him. Big step to see my baby growing up. His summer also included working as a lifeguard and teaching swim lessons. He heads off to school in September.

The triplets are 14 and are doing well. They've all had physicals this month and are growing very well. Poor "S". In pediatrics, they didn't have height measurements that went past 6'. Since he's almost 6'1", they just took his word for it. The other two are about 5'11" and still have a bit of growing in them. We've started back-to-school shopping since August will be busy.

In mid-August, I will be having shoulder surgery. It's been extremely difficult these past few months but I wanted to wait until school ended for the boys and swim team finished up. I have a torn rotator cuff, torn bicep/labrum, and problems with the AC joint. Messy surgery and long recovery to get back to full strength. No driving for a month. Luckily, my oldest son will still be around to drive the kids (along with my husband) to all their different activities. My friends have arranged dinner for a few weeks, too. They are the best!

In September, my trio heads to high school. A new milestone. One will play water polo in the fall so that will be a new opportunity for him. He's been playing for a few years but he's excited to play for a high school team.

That's about it for us. Hope all is well with everyone else.

Sharon, life sounds busy at your home. Brings back some memories.

Your oldest son will never be the same once he lives away at college. When he comes home to stay for the holidays or maybe the summer, you will notice that he is really independent. They come and go as they please, no curfews, they are adults. It's a real transition for us as parents. I just always told the boys that there is a mutual adult respect, that you let someone know if you aren't coming home at night.

You have some hefty surgery to recoup from. But with the help of family you can do it. I heard from my brother though, that his shoulder took a full year to completely heal. Is that what you are hearing?

I am surprised that your son doesn't start college until Sept. Our kids always had to be on campus by mid August.

Good luck with your surgery and keep us posted on your progress.

Chris 30 The College Student

I love hearing their versions of their childhood memories!!
