#22693, "My daugher and computers do not mix..."
|
of course she's the only one of the three that doesn't listen when you tell her "don't open stuff.. it might be a virus. Show me first"
She got a netbook for Christmas last year. Broke the space bar, but under warranty. It went back for repair. She complained that she didn't have any computer, and DH bought her ANOTHER, saying that when that one returned from the shop I could have it. Okay, they are rather convenient for travel, since we already owned a portable DVD.
Plus, daggone Santy brought the red one.. I really wanted the blue one. (said as she bats her baby blue eyes at her daddy)
So, two netbooks, and one little girl with lots of friends that like to play on the internet..... this spring she crashed hers with a virus. Since they come with no cd drive, and no back up stuff other than the built in repair which didn't work.. I put Ubuntu on it and taught her how to use it. June rolls around, and she and her friend are upstais facebooking on both netbooks.... she crashes MINE!!! So I installed Ubuntu on mine and told her and her friends hands off.
Back in June I started a writing project (right after the Ubuntu installation) I backed it up to my brand new flash drive. School ends and I'm going through her book bag and I find the top for my flash drive. I asked her where my drive was and she LOST IT. So, I meant to get another and back the files up again.
Well, last wednesday... One of their classmates (a young man with a rather large crush on her) came over and wanted to use a laptop, Kate handed him mine and ya guessed it... They crashed my netbook AGAIN.... thank goodness the writing project has been etched in my mind... Cause now I have to retype the whole thing!!!!!!!! I'm not a very computer savvy person. Know how to use it but can't fix the big problems. Thank goodness for my "IT Department", aka my dh. The boys have crashed my computer too many times to count. Viruses seem to pop up, despite firewalls and virus protections.
I don't think it gets better with age. At my son's college orientation, the IT Department had a huge list of problems they help to solve. Seems like a HUGE department because of the many issues college students have with their laptops.
