#318, "Playdoh problems"

Ok, my trio got this really cool play doh table for christmas. At first it went well, they only played with it when I was around. This table stays downstairs in our playroom. This past week, they decided to go downstairs (which they do alot) to play. They opened the playdoh and just had a field day for about 30 minutes. There is so much playdoh now in the carpet. Does anyone know how to get it up?
I have picked and vaccuumed a bunch, but some is still imbedded. I was so mad, now all the playdoh is thrown away and I have moved the table to the garage to wait for warmer weather.
Thanks for any help!

OMG, I hope you are able to get it out. Have you tried calling a carpet cleaning company? Maybe they could give you some suggestions or possibly come out and try to get it out.

Have you tried a search for Hints from Heloise? She might have a solution for you. My only suggestion would be to rearrange the furniture to cover the spot until you are ready for new carpet.

Dh frequently says that he wishes we had cemented the floor and put a drain in the middle to be able to just hose the place down every night.LOL

Let us know what you find out...

If its real Play-Doh then after it its completely dry you should be able to vacume most of it up and also use a home carpet cleaner no problem. If its the cheap-o play doh.. don't know what to tell you. I have always been able to crumble the real play-doh and vacume once its dried up.

Hi,
Ditto to the above! I recently carpet cleaned our floor with our carpet cleaner (Dirt Devil brand), and saturated it until it looked like a puddle (ok, more like a lake! LOL)! I let it sit there soaking, and checked on it about an hour later. Most of the playdo had lifted right up. The rest I used a pen cap to scrape it off. The only thing leftover is a small stain.
Not bad.

I went to playdoh.com and they have a Q&A section. About carpets it says do NOT use water. Let it dry, then brush with a stiff brush. If necessary use soap and water on what remains. It says it maight take a few times.

Because of this, I have all the playdoh in a big storage bin and only let them play on the kitchen table. Then I let the little bits dry and sweep them up (vinly floor)

Hi Kris - sorry to hear you've got the Play Doh blues. It's nice you can get advice on stuff like this hear though. I had an idea, but THIS IS JUST A GUESS !!! I've heard to get candle wax off a carpet, put a paper towel over it and use a hair dryer (through pt) to melt it and the paper towel will absorb it. I don't know if Play Doh melts like that, but if you've tried the rest and still have a stain, you could try this. I hope you find the solution!
