we could really use some prayers right now. DH had a stroke last Thursday while he was in the bank. Thank goodness his mother was with him. She called me at work and told me that he wasn't making sense...mixing up all his words and then he just went silent. I told her to get him to the ER and I would meet them there. Because he needs a kidney transplant his blood pressure is high and difficult to control, so the stroke was caused by extremely high blood pressure. 240/136! His ability to find the right words and make sense came back after about 4 hours. They did a CT scan and then an MRI on his brain and this stroke did not do much damage, but they found old damage that shows he has had about 2 other strokes within the last 2 years. His last brain MRI was in 2003 and was normal so that's how they know they happened in the last 2 years. They were 'silent strokes' that might have happened while he slept and/or I mistook his symptoms for a diabetic insulin reaction, not realizing he was having a stroke. The doctors changed his blood pressure meds and added new ones and sent him home last nigh. We nearly ended up back at the ER though because at 9pm his bp was 236/111. I gave him some meds and waited and took the bp again. I checked it every half hour until 3AM and then slept for 2 hours and checked it at 5am and he is doing much better. I'm at work now and the kids are at school. DH is home alone but his mom has this week off and she lives next door, so she will check on him and will make lunch for him. Things won't get better until he gets a transplant.

Oh my goodness! As if your family isn't contending with enough already! I will absolutely keep Tom in my prayers.

I want to share a story with you about hope:
My neighbor waited 2 long years for his new heart. Every day was thought to be his last, and when I saw him just a month ago, he couldn't even pick-up his daughter because he was so sickly.
So, a couple of weeks ago, he comes over here to let us know that he got the call from his nurse and that same night he was going in for his long awaited transplant.

Please don't give-up hope Trish. I will pray that Tom will be getting that call too real soon!

Thank you to all of you for your kinds words, thoughts and prayers. We will just keep plugging along and praying for a transplant.

Our neice that offered to be tested is now having second thoughts. It's a very personal decision and we would never be upset with anyone who backs out. DH and I understand the fear she may have, etc., so we just keep hoping.

I'm so sorry this happened to him but glad to hear his mom was with him. You are all in our prayers. I hope he is able to find a donor & get the transplant soon.
