#877, "Here comes the divorce....."

my lawyer called me today. The STBX(soon-to-be- ex) and I were scheduled to go to mediation on May 7th but they found another opening...this Friday!!! While I'm glad it will finally all be settled (hopefully), another part of me is sad. Not about the husband- I truly do not love him anymore. I feel like I failed at this marriage but I know that I did everything in my power to save it even when it was obvious that there was nothing worth saving. I tried for my children's sakes. I even considered staying in it until they all grew up but I couldn't imagine all those years of unhappiness and poverty. And what that would have done to my children. I know this is for the best and I am happy to be single again. The children are doing better (I got Abby potty trained and Robin and McLean are now showing interest!!) I am just worried about our futures at this point. It will be a struggle for awhile but we'll get there.
My career with Discovery Toys is beginning to take off and I have an opportunity this month to promote up and make more money so I am busting my butt to get there!!!
Anyway, I could be "unmarried", as my girls say, by this weekend.

If you are interested, the May edition of Parents magazine has a pretty good article on divorce. It's probably nothing you haven't already heard, but it does have a section on how it affects kids on an age-by-age basis. Does Texas still make parents go to that class on how to deal with the children? I know it was required when my dh and his ex divorced many years ago.

I saw that article Yes,I still have to go to that class. I have been putting it off b/c of the cost, the 4 hours and lack of childcare and b/c of my bad attitude about it! LOL! I have a degree in Early childhood education-there's not a whole lot they cantellme that I don't already know. And one of my girlfriends and my SIL went thru it and told me they try and push you to get back together with your ex. }> I know they are going to tell me not to use the kids as pawns, speak nice about the other parent in front of the kids, etc. Too bad I can't get some kind of exemption based on my degree.

Korrie,

While Texas might be liberal with their concept of personal freedom, they would NEVER forego an opportunity to milk it
residence for extra, unneeded money. Education? nah, doesn't count! LOL Totally backwards mentality--you should be exempt from this half@$$ class...but, alas...more money more the state (:
If it weren't so pathetic, it might be humorous.
Sorry you have to WASTE YOUR TIME.
and MONEY!

I just wanted to wish you luck on Friday. It is understandable that you have so many different feelings about this. It will most likely be better when things are finalized. Hang in there!

Didn't see your post 'til today, but I'll be thinking of you. I haven't even gotten as far as scheduling a date, though we've been separated for 2 years (at the end of March...) I like you have intellectually accepted that our marriage is dead, and our separation was my choice, but haven't taken the next step to make it official. I'm still wearing my wedding ring, not out of sentiment, but just that I kind of liked being in the 'married club', know what I mean? Oh well. Best of luck to you, and congrats on the potty training!
Laura
