I use the breathable bumpers in all 3 of their cribs. They have a LITTLE bit of padding but it has kept them all contained in their cribs. With my older dd we had a traditional padded bumper and once she started standing up she would try to step up on it and it tore the ties. One con for the traditional bumpers is they are so bulky you have to take them off just to change the crib sheet and the breathable ones you don't because they are thin. Shely~ Mom to 1+bbg
