#115, "how often do you give baths?"

I just read someone's trio schedule and right in there with the daily feeding schedule was "bath"! does anyone bathe their triplet babies every day?

I don't have time to do barely anything besides feed them and change them plus tummy time and some books/music. they are now 5.5 months and when they all wake up together after am nap we have story time and in the afternoon we have music time, but baths??? not every day. basically they get baths once a week and my mom does it when she comes for her Tuesday night "shift". I'll do it if she isnt here, or if someone has a major spit-up...but it seems that once a week is just fine for now. when they get older I will increase the frequency... I do clean up the gook in the neck folds with a wipe or washcloth!

anyone else like me? just looking for some affirmation.

If I have time while they are sleeping I (1) eat (2) shower (3) email/fb (4) clean up/wash bottles. I just stopped pumping...that was TV time, so occasionally I watch some tv too, but mostly after they are sleeping for the night.

I am like you. Mine get baths once a week when my MIL is here. The only other time than that is if they have a nasty spit up or out the other end. At this age I don't think a daily bath is necessary and like you I wipe thier faces, necks, and creases with a washcloth.
I can't imagine fitting a bath a day for 3 babies into our schedule. You are definetly not alone.

Definitely not everyday - more like 2x a week. I can't figure out how I would fit that in everday since there are some days I can't seem to get to solid foods.

I give bathes every other day. It does rotate a little so one week it's Monday, Wednesday, Friday then Sunday Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday. I just do it as part of their "play time". Usually at night before their last bottle. I can get all of them bathed and dressed in 30-45 minutes.

Mine get one about once a week. My 4yo doesn't even get a daily bath. If she's in the house all day, what's the point. Once she starts school next year, she'll probably need one every day, but I'm not starting before I have to.

Ours get a bath every other day before their last bottle. I bathe them, put lotion on, put on jammies, turn out the lights, and feed. Then, it is straight to bed. They sleep sooo good on bath nights, I have thought about doing them every day!

When my thre were tiny I only bathed once a week at best!! It was so much work and with a 2yr old also splashing around it wasn't easy. They hated it too. They used to roar crying. Now they have little bath seats and love it. They get a bath every third night about. The girls bathe together first snd then the boys. I read somewhere that bathing every night isn't great for the babies skin and a 'top and tail' is more than adequate. It may not be true but it made me feel much better about my once a week routine

LOL LOL LOL I don't even take a shower every day, why the heck would I bathe my kids every day??? When they were newborns we did it once a week. Now we do about 2x a week, sometimes 3, if we can find the time to squeeze it in, or if it was a really dirty day (poo blowout, found all the hair in their plams b/c I haven't vacuumed in 2 weeks, etc.). My oldest DS doesn't even get a bath daily; she gets one 3x a week. Bathing babies every day is really bad for their skin (it's just as bad for ours too); it strips away all the natural moisturizers and oils that protect it. I don't even change their clothes if they get them wet unless it's a grotesque amount of urine or spit-up. They're just going to do it again so why waste the time doing the laundry and changing clothes when we're not doing professional pictures that day anyway? Speaking of which, I don't dress them daily either - all 4 of us sit around in jammies all day and wear the same jammies until we get a bath. I think it's silly how often people bathe and primp their babies. But, that's just me; I am a dirt bag. LOL

While my kids are sleeping I play around on the PC or prep for more kid duties later.

we give baths every 3rd day as well since it is such a production! we only have one bath seat so they have to take turns and someone is always not happy waiting! plus we do it right before their last bottle so they are all cranky pants anyways but once they start feeding themselves finger foods in the next coming months i can see upping it to every other night since they will probably be even more gooey and sticky!

We do baths on Tues, Thurs, & Sundays. Sometimes we shift it if we need to be cleaned up for a dr's appt. Otherwise, that is it.

You are not alone! Mine get one once a week -- even with good intentions to do more. Mine also seem to stay in their sleepers/pjs until they leak or start to stink. I feel horrible, but am still trying to survive. My poor 2 year old only gets a bath once a week right now too. Heck, I am starting to go about every 4 days now!!!

I wish, wish, wish, wish I felt like I had this under control, but it seems like it is getting worse. And, add in that I seem to be up every hour at night now, I am darn tired and feel like I am failing at this. I know I am not, but just need a vacation! Or a bath.

At that age (and really up until 6 mo.) we bathed once a week. (Unless they had major spit-up or a messy diaper). Only recently have we started bathing more often and that is because they are more active, they are eating solid foods and they enjoy the bath. Lastly, they sleep through the night and let's face it, I have more energy to give baths more often.

We give them all a bath on Sunday night and then we bath one or 2 of them on different days (once or twice) during the week. On average they get about 2 baths a week. The during the week baths are more for them to enjoy the bath, splish-splash, playing with duckies, having one-on-one time with mom or dad. The Sunday bath is the head-to-toe make sure the baby is squeaky clean, you're in, you're out kind of production.

BTW-I spoke with my pedi at length about bathing. She was of the opinion that when they are super young they don't really need a true bath (just sponge bath). At about 1 mo. old or so we started doing water bath (no soap). Then at some point we started with the soap. She told us that she thought that a really young baby's skin is too delicate to be bathed every day.

I love this thread!! We bath the boys every third day unless there is company coming or we have a planned outing (which is very rare). I was worried that we should increase the frequency but it's such a production. Now that I read everyone else's schedule, we are not changing a thing! I am so happy to learn that we are "normal" in the triplet world!

Take care,
Kellie

I'm so glad everyone responded to this thread!

I gave my girls baths yesterday because I had them on a rug for naked photos and they got dog hair all over them. gross. After they each got a little massage, what a treat for them and for me!

and thank you to whoever said the babies shouldn't get baths more than their mother...

Now I'm starting to think I'm crazy!! We bathe every day before bedtime. I bathe, massage with lotion, and change their clothes. I feel like they are really dirty if I skip a day. Maybe I need to rethink this a little bit. of course, mine are only six weeks adjusted so they are still little and easy to bathe.

I do ONE BABY a day. It works out to 2 baths per kid every week. It's much easier to handle one in the tub for me.

When I had my 1st dd is was about 2x per week tops until she started crawling, then it bumped up to 3 or so times because she would get so dirty.
trio--- about 1 time a week TOPS until crawling then prob. 2 times a week once crawling
the baby----she is 10 months old and it is still about 1 time a week.

now of COURSE we do spot cleaning.
she gets her face wiped down with a warm washcloth after meals and I usually wipe down her arms at the same time.
when I change her diaper her legs and feet get a fresh wipe to them.

now of course if she gets dirty or we have somewhere special (and I mean REALLY special, not like the doctors or going out to eat) then she gets a fresh bath.

Mine get baths every night after feeding but I only use baby shampoo every 3rd day or so. I strip them down right after the last solid feeding for the day at about 4 pm and wash them in the kitchen sink one after the other. It is part of our bedtime routine and has helped them associate the bath with the end of the day. They have playtime for short period then I breast feed them and put them to bed. They seem to really like the predictability of the evening this way and I have noticed that after a month of this, they are easier to get to bed.
