#1204, "one wants to eat ever 2 hours"

Did anyone have one baby that wants to eat more often then the others? My girl fusses so bad until I feed her basically she is going about every 2 hours and the others will wait for the 3 hour mark. I had them all on a 3 hour schedule but lately my girl won't wait. They were actually on a 4 hour schedule in the nicu, but since we have been home its been 3 hours. Any ideas on how to handle this, she eats less too, I just cant get her to take more either. They all seem to have reflux and are on meds since last week which is helping. Thanks for any insight!

It could be that she has reflux worse than the others. What drug is she taking? They usually start you on Zantac (or its generic form) unless they've done the test to determine reflux and its severity. I don't remember how quickly Zantac kicks in, though I remember we could tell right away it pretty much did nothing for our daughter. We then did the reflux test and she was put on Prevacid. Maybe if she doesn't improve in another week, talk to her pediatrician about either upping the Zantac dose, or switching her meds.

The frequent eatings could also be a growth spurt, though since you said she's eating less, I'd guess it's more related to the reflux. How much is she eating per feed?

She is eating 2 oz and the boys take 3 oz every 3 hours.

That may be normal then. . .she's barely full term, so she probably can't hold more than 2-3 oz at a time. Maybe she needs a good burp halfway through, or just needs a little break?

My boys were born at 34 weeks, 1 spent a few days in the NICU, whereas the identical spent 3 weeks in the NICU. Both of the identicals was on a 4 hour schedule and was taking about 3 oz when they were discharged. However, once they came home the first few days was fine, but aftewards their eating just went down hill. They started to drink only 2-3 oz from anywhere between 2-4 hours from the next feeding.

Now that the boys are 3 months actual (1.5 adjusted), I'm still struggling with their feeding. One of identical still drinks very little...anywhere from 2-4 oz per feed...and anywhere from 2-4 hours apart from each feeding. I tried to put them on a schedule but it just doesn't work with these two since they are not great eaters.

My other boy drinks well, on average about 5 oz...every 4 hours...and has reflux (at night time it's every 5 hours). He's currently drinking Similac Alimentum and is taking Pepcid.

I wish you the best of luck with your girl.
