#1377, "Play Yard Advice"

Hello. I haven't posted in a very long time but our GGG triplets are thriving. They are now 5 months old and starting to find their legs and move!
We are looking for a play yard and not sure what will work best for our needs.
We have basically converted our living room into baby central where we currently have bumbos, swings, bouncy seats, and a changing station.
We were thinking of creating a play yard area for when the kids start to crawl.
Suggestions?
Thanks very much for all the valuable information this forum provides.
Edward

We started out with all their gear in the living room and adjoining dining room and then decided to just convert the dining room into their play room. We never did a play yard. We felt like they wouldn't use it long enough to make it worthwhile before outgrowing it and then we'd end up with an entire play room anyway.

We have a big gate in the archway between the living room and play room. The door in the gate is usually open these days, but I can still lock it when needed to keep them confined to the play room like if I'll be in the basement putting in a load of laundry or in the kitchen with the hot oven door open. When they first started to crawl the door was always locked, then we gave them more freedom to walk, but now they're climbing so I'm confining them more again.

We live in a bungalow with the living area all on the main floor. We don't use a play yard - rather, we let them roam around. Our home is relatively child proof apart from blocking off the stairs with a gate.

We definitely have to be careful where we step as we never know where one of them has scooted off to....

We had "baby jail". It was a 5ft by 5ft foldable square that could be bent to make other shapes. It was good for when they started crawling and you needed to do something. We only used it for a while like that. However, we have an open floor plan, so gates don't work. Now we stretch the baby jail into a straight line and can block off half the house, keeping a hallway to their bedroom, their room, and half the living room available to them. We prop it up with organizing bins, chairs, exersaucers, etc. on both sides.

We ordered "baby jail" from One Step Ahead. My MIL got one from Target. They're not cheap and we didn't use it for long, but it was very helpful for a while. Check out the safety sections on OSA and Target websites.

Hope that helps. Good luc
