#1432, "Feeding question (solids)"

We started our 6month old (4 mos adjusted) BBG triplets on solid foods a couple of weeks ago. They eat 30oz of formula a day via bottle on a 3-hour schedule. And then I am giving them solids twice a day in the form of either 1/3 container of veggie or fruit plus 1 TBLspn rice cereal mixed with 2 TBLspn of formula. They love solid foods and would eat more if I offered it to them, but everything I've been reading at various sources online seems to indicate I'm already giving them way more than recommended.

I'm going to ask the pedi about this next week, but also wanted to get opinions/experience from anyone here.

Also, how do you deal with spoon feeding 3 babies at once? Mine get super mad when I'm feeding the others and I listen to a lot of whining and sometimes crying during solids time.

Thanks!
Joey

Has their formula intake decreased since you have started giving solids? If not, then you aren't feeding them too much. Every baby is different and that doesn't sound like too much to me. If they are drinking less since starting solids then you are feeding too much.

I fed them assembly line. 3 high chairs in a line or semi-circle around me. One bowl, one spoon. Pop a bite in one mouth and then do the same to the other 2. Yes, sometimes they didn't want to wait but they need to get used to it. When you come as a trio you are going to have to wait your turn sometimes.

I too feed mine in 3 high chairs placed in a semi-circle around me. One bowl and one spoon. I'm jealous though - I've got one who still won't eat off a spoon...grrr.

I agree with Lori - if the milk intake is still the same then let them eat!!

good luck!

Their formula intake hasn't decreased at all.

Thanks for the advice! I guess we just need to continue to work on teaching them patience. *smile* That'll happen, when? 18 years maybe? *grin*

Our babies were eating quite a bit more than that by that age, so I don't think you need to worry about giving them too much solid food.

I didn't start the 3-high-chair semi-circle until they were a bit older. Initially, I just did the spoon feedings one at a time until they got the hang of keeping the food in their mouth and taking bigger bites. That soupy stage 1 food is hard to dish out quickly without making a mess. The thicker food for older babies works much better. And just think, in a few more months, you'll be sweeping up piles of Cheerios off the floor like I am right now!

I intend on getting a domesticated duck to take care of the Cheerios problem.

Hi, I'm new here with 8 yr old triplet girls.
Just reading about the cheerios on the floor reminded me when my girls were 1 1/2 years...they grabbed a box of corn flakes and dumped the whole box on the patio. They had a good time pounding it to crumbs.
