#200, "7 month old still feeding every 3 hours? What are we d..."

I posted on the mail page too but there seems to be a lot of discussion about schedules here so I thought i would give it a whirl.

My dd (post triplet babe) is 7 months old (born at 32 weeks) and she is still eating every 3 hours (about 6oz, 4 bottles daily) She also can only really handle staying awake for about 2 hours before getting pretty cranky. I have decided that she can only tolerate one solid food feeding at this point. If I feed her more than it cuts down on her formula intake.

She wakes at 5am and goes to bed around 530-6. Naps every 2 hours (usually an hour but occasionally longer. The triplets were on a great nap and feeding schedule at this age...I just cant seem to do anything right to get her there.....is it just her personality????

Hmmm...it could be many things.

One of our dd slept more...just her personality.
One ate less...long story, but reflux and milk protein allergy was behind it, and because she didn't eat much at a sitting (2oz) she had to eat often (sometimes every 90min).
If she is in a growth spurt, or teething, the eating can fall off and crankies/sleeping can go up.
If she is cranky because she is hungry rather than tired...it may be she needs feeding sooner than 3 hours and is getting ready for a growth spurt.
It also could be that she has reflux and is not sleeping well...and thus must nap a lot.
If she is sleeping through the night, you may need to step back and dream feed her at 10-11pm so that she gets some additional calories as she starts eating solids.

You are at a hard spot...not sure if it is something she will grow out of or that you could change. Hopefully something will click so you will be able to trouble shoot this and get her into a routine.
