First of all, we never go anywhere! LOL We went to the mall once, for pictures with Santa, and we had to stop at Dunkin Donuts and get 3 cups half full of hot water to let the bottles sit in and warm. That worked pretty well for us; it's what we used to with our oldest DD too. By the time we're done unbuckling and changing and all that nonsense, the bottle's warm enough to drink. I just make the bottles at home like regular and pack them in a cooler. If you're finding that they aren't warming fast enough, you could always take the bottles out an hour ahead of time so they are closer to room temp when you warm them, so it might not take as long to heat up.
One other thing to consider is those formula containers that seperate the correct amount for one bottle (http://www.greatbabyproducts.com/Powder_Baby_Formula_Dispenser_p/munc-80101.htm). After we learned what we were doing with our oldest DD, these containers were VERY convenient, and we would get hot water from Dunkins, and carry plain room temp bottled water, so that we could get the temp right, and just add the formula from the container, shake and serve. That worked great too.
HTH!

You came to Arkansas. That's where I live! We do room temp. bottles. I'd have the powder formula in the bottle and then take the water separate. When they were ready we'd pour in the water and shake. That's how we always did it w/my oldest when we actually went places! Sarah

We too did room temp bottles of water, and brought the formula powder with. So much easier to mix right there and serve. there were a couple times my water bottles leaked ALL OVER, so from there we went to the nearest bathroom and refilled them. I know not the best thing to do, but it worked and the kids didn't care what kind of water was in it, they were just happy to have a bottle. So, if you go to the mall i am sure they have a potty and a sink, fill and mix there. Good luck. Glad to hear you are going out!!! More of us need to get out! We always used room temp bottles. When going out, I would bring bottles with specific amounts of room temp water and throw a can of powder formula into the diaper bag.
When we needed a bottle, we would just scoop out the formula, shake and serve.

Our trio is spoiled and will only take warm bottles--no room temp formula for them! What we have found to work best is this: use one of those dispensers a pp mentioned and fill w/appropriate amount for each bottle. Then fill your bottles w/ half the amount of room temp water and cap. Lastly, fill a Thermos (one that will keep hot things hot) w/water you've heated in the microwave. Then, when it's time to make a bottle, you fill the bottle the rest of the way w/the hot water and then add the formula. Lots quicker than trying to warm a bottle in a cup! (But I would try to get your kids to take it room temp--that's the easiest way!)

4 scoops of formula in bottle with cap and a bottle of water. I would fill to 8 oz and shake. I warmed bottles when they were itty bitty then I realized it was too much work and I had the drink room temp. I did this at home too. I would leave a gallon of water on the counter and scoop the formula in the bottles ahead of time.
