#413, "Change, feed, sleep, repeat..."

I have 4 week old triplet girls. I feel like all we do is change them, feed them, then put them back in the crib or in their swings, etc. We're still on a 3 hour feeding schedule, and by the time I get that finished for each of them, it's time to start all over again! I just feel like the girls aren't getting enough cuddle time and personal attention from us. It's so hard with three babies! Any suggestions, or is it just about survival at this point?

You are in survival mode right now. One suggestion is to start propping bottles if you aren't already. If you can feed them all at the same time you will have a few extra minutes to just snuggle babies. They don't do much more than sleep at this point anyway so don't stress too much. Right now you just need to do whatever it takes to get through the day.

it is just about survival at this point,
they are getting exactly what they need from you, and you need to try to get what you need ... food, water, and SLEEP.

don't worry, they will eventually spread out their feedings and be awake more. and they will start to eat faster too.

its challenging to accept help and to manage help that is accepted, but go ahead and ask for help. let people do laundry, clean house, wash bottles, do food shopping, cook meals... whatever helps you.

you are doing exactly what you should be! you will start to enjoy them soon enough!

I felt the same way. It just survival right now. I also suggest propping they bottles. What I did was prop two and hold one. Then switch to someone else the next feeding. It help make me feel like I was spending a little more with each one of them. I still do it that way. It does get a little better when you are able to switch to a 4 hours feeding schedule.

I felt like this was our schedule for the first 3 months almost. I PROMISE you...in a couple of months, you will have all of the play time and cuddle time that you can possible want. You will have more kisses and more smiles than you can handle. This is completly normal at this stage.

Use this time to rest and do what you need/want to do for yourself. Nap time will be much harder in the near future! Good luck.

I second this post!!! I felt the same way....don't worry! Before too longer they will not be wanting to go down for naps and they will be wanting your attention all the time. I have 4 month olds and I feel like I am busier with them now more than when they were newborns because they can't really play on their own (sit up, play with toys, etc.) but they don't want to sleep all day either.

Enjoy this time - and also, they need to be sleeping all day right now!

It is survival mode right now, but I promise it will get better. Mine are 8 months today , and this is the best time. I told my husband last night, I finally feel as though we are parents and not nurses. Before, it was so clinical. Change, feed, meds, sleep, repeat. Now, we can have fun!

You are giving them exactly what they need. Keep it up!

I remember feeling the exact same way! Unlike a lot of the other triplet moms, I never really got the hang of propping bottles - I tried it for a month, but my son kept choking on the bottle and I hated that I didn't get to hold them. So for me during that time period, I staggered their feedings by 15 minutes and feed each one in my arms. That was their "personal time" with mom. I definitely felt like I went right from changing to feeding to napping (them, not me) but it was what worked best for me.

Good luck!!
