#668, "Newborn sleeping, feeding & medicine schedules?"

Does anyone have a good example of a newborn sleeping, feeding & medicine schedule? I'd love to have one set up for each of my babies before they arrive. Thanks!

I kept my girls on the same schedule they were on when they got home from the hospital, which was feeding every four hours.

I also gave them their medicine in the morning, partly because that's when the NICU did it, and partly because it was easier for me to remember to give it to them in the morning.

So our schedule was:

12 am: Feed
4 am: Feed
8 am: Feed, vitamins and medicine
12 pm: Feed
4 pm: Feed
8 pm: Feed (and second medicine, if it was a twice a day medication)

They'd be awake maybe a half hour or after feeding (and feeding could take from 20-40 minutes) then would nap. My girls always sleep longer in the morning than in the afternoon.

Unfortunately I never had a set schedule. I DO recommend it. However if you anticipate a NICU stay for your babies then you might want to wait and see what type of schedule they have them on. Mine did eat every 3 hours (had their meds in the morning) until around 4 months.
