#680, "Feeding"

Our triplets are 4 months old born Apirl 29 and are breast fed only. I do almost all the feedings and get help when DH isn't working or when family can help out. I am curious as to when they should start on cereal? Also, I am looking for ways to take them walking by myself or biking, but I can't find a triple bike trailer. I walk them with a double stroller and a sling for the third baby, just curious if anyone else has tried this themselves.

Hi,
I think it is wonderful that you are able to breastfeed all three of your babies. Our boys (now 2 years old) started on cereal at around 6 months adjusted. That is the recommended age where we live.
As far as biking, I don't think you will find a triple bike trailer. I've seen discussions on here about that before and it seems that they are not made. However, when your children are older, you could use a double bike trailer and put the third in a bike seat on your bike. That is what I do now. I've also heard that the Chariot Bike Trailer can hold 3 infant slings, but I don't own one so I've never tried it.

Thank you for the information on the bike trailer. I was worried having the bike seat on the bike it would tip over if I got off to check on the two in the trailer. I really appreciate your advice as I will go insane if I am stuck home with these three all next summer.

Mine started on cereal at 4 months adjusted, with some success. If I catch them in just the right mood, they'll sort of get the hang of opening, taking the spoon, etc. If not (i.e., they're too hungry or too tired) it doesn't work so well.

Mine were born on April 26th just three days before you. At at four month doctor visit he wanted us to wait until the next visit at six months to begin discussing it. He feels they do not have the required enzymes to digest until then.

WOndered about waiting, but we have had pretty good luck feeding them. I make most of their food and the rest I buy organic hoping that will help out.

Our boys were born on April 26 so they are a little over 4 months. We just had our appointment last friday and he said we can start rice cereal. Tonight will be the trial...not sure it will go well. We will see!

He said to do rice for a week then switch to the next type of cereal and continue that until they work up to vegetables, fruits, and meats.

As for walking, we have a triplet stroller and I would die without it. We take daily walks and they love it!

How is the feeding going? We are doing well, but the babies spit up and I have heard from friends that this is normal and they do that with just breast milk too. We have BBG triplets and Toryn does really well and teh boys tend to be more spitty.

Ours were born on April 30, so, six months yesterday.

We have been mixing rice porridge (liquified in a blender) with the bottle - we feed both formula and breast milk. We mix about 25% rice and 75% milk.

I was wondering if blended rice porridge is the same as rice cereal?

May be we should start trying feeding them cereal/porridge with spoon rather than mixing it in the bottle....
