#683, "Napping in Swings!"

hello:
my girls nap 3 times a day or so in their swings.
they sleep in their crib at night but need to be moved after they fall asleep in their swings. they are 13 months/11 adjusted and will outgrow their swings soon...any ideas on a replacement for their swing.
they like their swings b/c that is where they take their bottle. since they hold their bottle, they need to be propped up a little bit. any ideas would be great. thanks,
annie

Maybe a nighttime routine could take the place of the swings. Possibly books, a bath and bottle then bed.

My son napped in his swing until he got too big for it and then transitioned to a crib fine. One thing we did do is we would let him fall asleep in the swing and then take him out and put him in his crib once he was out so he would wake up in his crib and realize THIS is where you sleep. Of course there were some days I did not risk taking him out of that swing because I did NOT want to wake him up, but I tried to do it most of the time.

Hi Annie-
I had ur exact problem. My GGB were 10 months old when I decided to change their routine and thus their falling asleep in their swings. I started putting them in their cribs awake for their naps and to sleep. What I did was, once they had their bottle, I took them to their room one by one and started cuddling them to sleep. When I saw that their eyes started to get heavy and closed, I placed them in their crib (still awake). Although it was not a peace of cake it was easier than I thought it would be. Once they got used to falling asleep by themselves in their cribs then I started taking them to their room all at the same time and telling them they were going night-night and although they protested, it was for a short time. Now I put them to bed at 6:30 pm and they sleep straight to the next day. they also take napsduring the day 9:30 am and at 2:30 pm.

They are now 15 months old and the change in my life has been dramatic. You'll have 2 weeks of hell but then it will be great. You'll even see a change in the girls. Mine sometimes talk each other to sleep. In the mornings they wake and don't automatically cry. They stay in bed talking and playing with each other for about 30 - 45 minutes. Time YOU have to REST. They seem to feel secure in their cribs.

Anyway I hope this helps a little bit
Lots of luck
MaMoli

Hi:
Thanks for the advice. I will definitely try that soon.
How did they take their bottles in their cribs? Were they just laying flat or did you have a pillow to prop their heads?
I am just worried about having them lay flat while drinking...
Thanks,
Annie

The kids took their bottles in their swing before taking them to their room. I have a gated play area where I put their swings and gave them their bottle. That way I could go with one of them to the room without worrying about any accidents.
At first it was a bit time consuming bec I took the time with each of them and rocked them until their eyes were heavy and then placed them, but once they got used to falling asleep by themselves I gave them their bottles downstairs all at the same time and when they were done took them to their room all at the same time. I'm telling you it works. try it.
good luck
MaMoli

right now what i do is give them each a bath, then place them in their swing, then when they are done plus asleep, i move them in their cribs...
i am trying to eliminate the swing b/c eventually they will outgrow that.

When my kids were little we had these cute little stuffed bear chairs. They would lay in those after bathtime and drink their bottle while watching a 30 minute sleepy time video. Then off to bed. Usually Costco or Sam's sells those chairs just before Christmas time. HTH!
