#1460, "Superyard for the Christmas tree or not?"
|
I'm not sure if we should get one or not. My triplets are 15 months old (13 adjusted) and I really think they're going to be obsessed with the Christmas tree. So, what are your thoughts on this? A good idea? Worth the money and the peace of mind?? Jo

YES, get the super yard. We did this last year when they were 16 months and it worked GREAT. Not able to pull it over or climb it. This year I am not sure what to do. We have the yard now protecting the computer, so I told my DH I was gonna hang the tree from the ceiling!!! Zayn 3/6/04 Pari 8/30/06 Trevor 8/30/06 Larkin 8/30/06

Agree - definately get it - I had it up last year when mine where 18 months or it would not have survived - it still got whacked as they figured out quickly that they could reach over and hit at it if they got their hands on something longish, so it`s not foolproof, so get the unbreakable ornaments too.
This year they are 2 1/2 and they and the older two decorated it for me on their own (except for the lights) and after that they have mostly left it alone, we have done a lot of Christmas crafts (early I know) this year, since they have all been sick and we`ve been `quarantined` so they have had a lot of other hands-on stuff to do, maybe that`s why they have been less focused on it, or maybe they are just getting better at listening (if I knew how to put a laughing face here I would!)

Coming from someone who lost the first battle of mom's tree v. baby, get the Superyard.
Their second Christmas, my kids pulled the tree down WHILE I was decorating it. I put the Superyard up and we were golden for over a month! Loren GGG Jan.2005 @ 28wks

At that age, yes, we used a Superyard. My three were 16 months at the time and they were most definitely obsessed with the tree. Even with the fence, it was a close call... I remember times where the tree was swaying. But the gate was what helped prevent the tree from coming down all together. By the next year, we were able to bypass the Superyard.

We made the decision not to put up our big tree this year. With 19 month old triplets and a newborn I just didn't think I could deal with it! I couldn't invest in a superyard, so instead I found a cheap 4 foot tree that I'm putting up on top of my entertainment center. Gosh..the tacky things I never thought I'd do before I had triplets Mommy to Eli, Cara, and Brady 4/24/07 born at 34 weeks and Allison Elizabeth (surprise!) born 11/6/08

Yes we used the superyard for the past 2yrs. The first year they were too young. But the past 2yrs it has been a life saver. Actually last year they were two and they would throw things over the gate. This year we are not using it. And they boys know as they keep saying we are putting up the x-mas tree but NO gate mommy.
Wish us luck.

Well, I guess I am the dissenting voice as we never put the superyard up. We have a real tree and I just put all non breakable ornaments on it and after the initial fascination, they pretty much left it alone. Maybe it was that a real tree is more "pokey" and hurts more if you try to grab it? I don't know, but with 5 kids, we never gated it and have had no problems. Oh, we also have a train that we put up last year (not the year they were 1) and maybe that held their attention away from the tree. the train survived, but it did take some beatings!
