Yeah, no one knew what mine were.

I was getting irritated at all the stupid comments until a little boy (like 5 or 6) said "Look, Mommy! It's Dorothy!!! And the Bad Witch and the Good Witch!" I felt like turning around and hugging him, then handing him all of the candy in our bucket.

Just curious if that happened to anyone else!

So, it took a little kid to figure out who they were? LOL!

I'm just irritated at the 500 pounds of candy they brought home.

Lisa

P.S. We were chickens. Not very scary, but very obvious. I have to think chickens are about as obvious as Dorothy and some witches!

Since ours were sitting down we had a few ask what they were. The monkey was kind of hard to figure out when you couldn't see the whole costume. They had a blast and even managed to still get baths and bedtime done only 20 min late! So I count it a success...

Well, I couldn't really blame them for ours. My son and his 2 cousins were John Deere Tractor Superheros (John Deer Tractor super hero cape and masks.) I was surprised when many people knew immediately though!

My boys were three little devils. Their costumes were solid red, with black horns and black devil wings. They stayed in the choo-choo for the most part...One little boy yelled "Look Mom! A train full of bats!"

That was by far the best comment we got, even though he got our costumes all wrong! For the most part, people got that they were devils.

Most people knew what my kids were. We got a few comments of mouse for Ben until they looked closer. He was an elephant. Katie was a panda bear and a couple people guessed something else at first. Abby was a monkey and no one got that wrong.

I was so happy with how it went. It helped that we had 5 adults going with 3 kids. DH couldn't go but his family went with us. It was nice to have extra people because we did not take a wagon. The kids walked mostly but there were plenty of people to carry them when they needed that. The kids had a great time. I am glad their first experience was a fun one. Katie was scared by one house but that was it.

We did our whole housing development. About 25 houses were giving out candy. The kids got a ton of stuff. Plus, I bought way too much to give out because I didn't know how many kids this neighborhood got. DH and I will be eating Halloween candy for a few months with all we have left.

We were the Shrek triplets and I guess no one has seen that movie because I had to explain it to everyone!
Oh well, too bad I couldn't have hung out with all you triplet moms who would have understood!

I went to your blog and those costumes are GREAT! They definitely look like the Wizard of Oz characters to me! Good job!

Oh, and my kids didn't look at the camera for pictures either. They never do. Waaayyy to distracted by the thought of candy!

One of my boys was Racer X, which is Speed Racer's brother. Nobody knew who he was. One went as Speed Racer and of course everyone knew him. And one went as a pirate, and all he said was that nobody liked his costume because everyone liked Speed Racer best.

Loren,

Your costumes are amazing! I can't believe you made them and you must have run across a bunch of idiots if they couldn't figure out who they were. We did the Wizard of Oz too with my SIL so we had the good witch, bad witch, dorothy, tinwoman, scarecrow and lion and we still ran across a few dummies who didn't figure it out. They were way too cute!

Our girls did the same thing last yr and we also had people saying to us, look it's Dorothy, a witch, and a princess? I just wanted to say "doesn't anyone get it"!
Well I'm glad someone finally figured your kids out.

Our girls dressed up as kitties this yr. I had quite a few people say to them, where are your mittens, did you loose them? No they are not the three little kittens who lost their mittens they are just three different kitties nothing else. They would of been but I ran out of time and didn't get their mittens sewn on. Oh well.

Maybe next yr we all can dress our kids in something more simple and not so difficult for people to figure out.

Mine were Yoda, Princess Leia and Chewbacca from Star Wars. I was very surprised how many people didn't know what they were. I mean even if you aren't a Star Wars fan you'd have to be living in a cave to not have at least heard of them. Weird.

That's a really great theme! I'm glad my DH didn't hear about it first or we'd be arguing over which girl would be Chewbacca instead of the Wicked Witch

well, our elephant was pretty obvious. the bear pretty much as well. the one that threw everyone was my dd- she had a pink poodle costume from Old Navy- and yes, she did look like a pink poodle, but that's not what she wanted to be. she wanted to be a sheep and thought the poodle curls could pass for wool... so I would always try to beat people to the punch and tell them what she was or mouth it over her head so she wouldn't feel bad.

and yes, maybe if I were a better mom, I would have offered to make her a sheep costume, but I'm sure I'd still be mouthing it over her head anyway!
