#196, "Seriously??? How old is too old to Tick or Treat???"

So last night while I was giving out candy to tick or treaters, much to my surprise when I open my door there is a MAN and a WOMAN in there 40s tick or treating. REALLY!!!!!! AND their only costume was she had painted her nose black and added whiskers, while he had on a stupid hat. They actually had the nerve to trick or treat!!! I was so shocked I gave them a sucker each (I feared that if I didn't give them candy, something would happen to my house). After they received there sucker they looked at me like "That's it"? I then just shut the door in disbelief.

All I can say is a quote form my favorite TV show, SERIOUSLY!!!!!!!

That is crazy. There is no way adults should be trick or treating unless they are taking kids.

We did have one neighbor who said they were going to give out jello shots to the adults next Halloween. I want to trick or treat at their house!

Tanna - that's so funny! I would've probably done the same thing... here's your sucker now get off my lawn, lol!

We had a few older kids come by. Most were dressed up, but a few showed up on the doorstep by themselves with only a t-shirt on that said something like "I'm with the Band." Another one had a glo-necklace on with regular clothes. WTH? These kids are in high school.

We gave them candy, and my FIL would tell them "Great costume!" Then they'd look at us like we were the crazy ones. We laughed SO HARD every time.

40s??? That's absurd! I don't think I would have given them anything. We did have one neighbor giving out cups of wine to the adults walking with their little kids.

I would rather have teens collecting candy than out getting into trouble, but I do expect them to go by the rules of TOTing. You have to be wearing a costume, say "trick or treat", and say "thank you". Anybody who violates one of those rules gets a bonus treat - a lesson from me! Horrifies my husband, who tries to beat me to the door every time so I won't be lecturing the neighbors' kids.

I'm in the minority on this one. If someone is in a costume and says, "Trick or Treat" they get candy at our house. I think with the way the economy is and the feel of everyone struggling to get through, Halloween is a great reminder for everyone to just have fun. Granted, your trick-or-treaters were lame...around here when teens/college kids/adults trick or treat, the costumes are really creative. Maybe that's why it's so fun?

That's odd. We have had adult parents dress up WITH their kids and trick-or-treat. We are fine with that and think it is funny. Heck, if they take the time to dress up then they get a treat. But, I agree that going without kids and barely wearing a costume is weird. I probably would've done what you did.

I did continue trick-or-treating up until my senior year in high school. My friends and I all dressed up to enjoy our last year of it. We only got a few strange looks.

Um, if 40-somethings showed up at my door step with no costume, I would tell them "If you're that desperate for a hand-out, go get on food stamps!"

You know what...
Now that I think of it they were probably the best costume of the night. Want to know why???

Their costume was them being dressed up like loser 40 yr olds, tick or treating for candy. They looked so realistic that I didn't realize the true costume. Now I feel bad for only giving them one piece of candy each.

OMG! I'm laughing so hard. That's why you have kids! So they can be your candy pawns. Good grief!!!
