#3534, "I just can't potty train them. I just CAN'T!"

So of course the boys decided that today is the day to potty train. the day that mommy is dying from a horrible headcold. They finished breakfast and all begged me to use the potty. I couldn't say no.

I have three IKEA potties plus a ring on the big potty. Well the three of them and I all squished into the tiny bathroom while they rotated potties, climbed on and off the big one, played with the toilet paper roll, washed hands, touched the potties again, washed hands again, fell off the stepstool and spilled Cars out of the bucket we carry them in, cried because they wanted more toilet paper, put diapers back on and decided they wanted them off again, etc. Times THREE of course. And of course I yelled which I feel guilty about but man I was SO frustrated and it's like a game to them - it was driving me crazy. And I'm SICK!!!!!

I finally got them all dressed and in front of a movie. Ugh.

Seriously, I don't know how I will survive this. I do NOT have the energy to do this again. Or to clean up 3 piles of pee/poop off my rug every 5 seconds.

What am I going to do? I just can't do this!!! HELP

my girls aren't quite ready for the full deal, but are showing some signs of interest, like your guys. What we do is leave the potty chairs in the living room. That way we have room, they do not have access to toilet paper, & if they rotate it's not a biggie. They can watch tv, play with toys, whatever. If the diaper comes off, they have to sit down, it they want to get up, a diaper has to go on. It works for us. I feel like I should be potty training, but I am not ready, either. I really don't think they are at a maturity level where they are ready. Summertime is such an easier time to start it, so that is when I plan on devoting 100% attention to it, if they are ready. As long as they don't have to be ready for preschool, there is no rush. WE have until the Fall of 2010 before preschool, so I'm pretty lax about it. My son was pushed before he was ready & we had YEARS of problems. It should be more about when they are developmentally ready & it doesn't sound like they are.

I hope my rambling helped. I know potties in the living room sounds gross, but they don't use them all the time. When they do, they get sterilized as soon as they are done,so it's not like they are germy. If someone doesn't want to come in my house b/c I have potty chairs in the living room, then they can stay out for the next year or so

I'm sorry I can't help b/c I GAVE UP! After a few days of pee everywhere, one DS refusing to go on the potty, washing 30 pairs of underwear every load, etc.... I said f*#@ it! I'm waiting until they are more ready and it's warmer out. They're not going to preschool until Sept. so I have some time. Bad attitude- I know- but I don't care - it was too much stress

Don't do it till YOU feel better. It is definitely extremely exhausting!!! I felt like I had run 12 marathons the weekend that I potty trained.
I got sick of them asking me to sit on the potty and then they don't pee...It was too much. You have to totally gear up mentally and then put the diapers away. It's way too much work to train them doing diapers, on and off times three. We did only underwear and shirts (for 4 days) so it was easier on and off, and we brought the potty's into the kitchen so it was easy clean-up. Give them lots to drink and then sit them on the potty every 15 minutes. (read the "Toilet Train In Less Than A Day" book, by Nathan Azrin).
Good luck!
