#4775, "no naps at 2 years old!"

It seems that everyday in my house, someone doesn't nap. They are all in their cribs but usually two of the three (sometimes 1 out of three) sleep and one child stays up. My issue is that it is different all the time. One day, A & N sleep and L stays up. The next day N & L sleep and A is up. It changes all the time. They go down to nap at 12:30. Should they go to nap later? My issue with changing their nap schedules is that it would disrupt their services. I would have to change their therapy times and possibly change therapists if we change our schedule. What time do your two year olds nap?

My first question would be are they seperated? If not, that will make the world of difference. If you don't have the room, find it, PNP's in another room, whatever you need to do. Mine are 3.5 and 2 still nap 100% of the time, the other depends on what we do.

At 2, we napped I think 1:30-4:30, depending on when they get up, 12:30 may be too early.

We are a bit behind you, be we also separate for naps. We also nap at 12-12:30.

7am - out of crib...usually awake long before that
12:00-12:30 start nap
2:15 - 2:30 end nap
7pm - bedtime...usually takes them 1/2 hr to an hour to settle down and sleep

I go through this also. Most of the time I don't put mine down for naps anymore. If they are really cranky I will, but this doesn't happen often.

For us, when they took a nap, bedtime was horrible. They would be so energetic that it took them forever to fall asleep at night. And since they are now in beds, this was a nightmare.

Without naps, they fall asleep within minutes. And I am surprised at how well they do without naps. They can go from morning to night with the same level of energy.

Anyway, you might want to give this a try. I hated giving up my daytime nap free time but it does work better for us at night. It gives me more free time after they go to bed instead of spending over an hour going back and forth to their room getting them back in their beds.

We have a similar schedule to Susan's-
7am- up (most days)
12:30-down for nap
2-2:30 up from nap
7pm-bedtime

Our girls are all in separate rooms also.

I have this problem at times, not every day. mine are all together, and we can't seperate them, we jsut don't have the room. So I put them down at 12:30 and they don't get back up untill 2;30 - 3:00. They don't cry in thier cribs but talk, play and jump. I do play soothing music and make it dark, but at times this still doesn't help. They don't sleep, it doesn't matter they still have to stay in bed for quiet time. THe only time I get them out of thier cribs is if they are crying so hard or sick or something, but really becasue this has always been our Rule, they hang out and rest or talk and play. Iam OK with that. They still go to bed at 7:00, and I've never had a problem, again it may take them 15minutes to stop jumping around, but they go to sleep and sleep all night!! Good luck!! i wouldn't want to try to give up naps yet!

My kiddos are 2y8m and we stopped naps about a month ago. It was horrible making them settle down. They would party the entire time, jumping, screaming, laughing, talking, etc. So we gave up.. and the kids don't seem to care. They go down for bedtime quicker now.. otherwise they were partying at bedtime as well. So it seems to be working for us.. althouhg I would love for us all to have our calm time and rest a little.

My kids also party at naps and bedtime. It is bad. However, when they don't nap the girls tend to have night terrors. Ben might be better off most days without a nap at this point. The girls get really cranky without one. I am going to keep the naps in the schedule until we switch them to toddler beds. At this point we are planning on doing that right before they turn 3. I suspect naps will be over at that point. Most days my kids do finally settle down and nap. Getting them to bed at night after they nap is not fun. It is so hard to know when is the best time to make changes.

My kids stay in bed the whole time and they also play and don't cry. My son, Luke, will have night terrors if he doesn't nap but he usually naps. I don't think it would help to separate them because usually one is up so they are not keeping each other up.

My trio stopped napping at age 2 1/2 after a couple of months of fighting them to nap. I thought it was maybe because there were 3 of them that napping stopped so soon, but my youngest DS hasn't napped in over a week! UGGHH!!! He will be 3 in July so maybe this is just the age that my kiddos bodies say they don't need a nap anymore??

I would really like for DS to keep napping, but we are doing everything I can think of to keep his naps going and he will have none of it lately. It is more frustrating and a bigger pain to try to get him to nap than to just let him go without it. Nighttime sleeping goes 7pm until 7 am wake time. He does get more cranky in late afternoon than he did while napping sleeps very sound at night and is happy in the morning.

We stoped naps between 2 and 2-1/2. I could never get all 3 of them to nap and the ones who did din't want to go to bed at bedtime. So no nap and everyone is in bed by 8. Most nights. If by some chance one of them sleeps any during the day it is really hard to get them to go to bed at night so it is just not worth it to me.
