#518, "and another thing....I dont think they will ever be pot..."
|
Our gbb trips will be 4 in March and I think we are going to have the oldest triplets in the history of all time to be wearing pull-ups. I am so discouraged by our lack of progress :0(

My sisters twins aren't fully trained. They will be 4 in March, too. One boy is pretty good at it, but the other is nowhere ready. He did good for a while & then regressed. Check us out at: http://thewrighttrips.blogspot.com/

I swear to you, I did not push it and I think that was what worked for us.
No M&M rewards. No potty parties. No stickers. No confetti. No Dr. Phil potty training books.
Mean Mommy.
I think the only thing I did was read some potty books. That's about it.
Their little brains told their little bodies when they wanted to master the potty training milestone and it just happened.
It will click with them.

ZAZ By default...I cant really follow through with a real strict "trainin" method...I am so completely overwhelmed with everyone thing else going on in our life right now. I really hope that your theory is correct and that they will just listen to their instinct and eventually not want to wear a diaper any more. Our society really pushes it at such an earlier age than mine are...so I guess I feel really pressured.
I am even at the point that I feel bad asking people to watch them because who wants to change POOPie diapers on a 3.5 year old???
...and I really am desperate for help......

Don't get me wrong. I got honked off by some family members (Mom and Grandma and even DH sometimes) who seemed to always bring up the topic of potty training and felt I should be working a bit harder towards the goal. They were sweet, but always brought it up and then would regale me with their stories of how THEY potty trained THEIR children MUCH earlier than I.
Whatever.
We're not Moms of singletons where I'm assuming, it's a lot easier!
Plop them on the toilet. Read the potty books. Get a book that has the noisy buttons and sound like toilets flushing. That's a good one. And give a bunch of praise and jump for joy when they go. That's all we did. Did it click overnight? No. But, it clicked.
I felt so strongly about sending them to pre-school, but they had to be potty trained and I think that really worked, too. They wanted to go to school and knew they had to get this potty training thing under their belts (no pun intended) before they could go. It worked as an incentive and made them mindful of their little PT goals.
Good luck. It's around the corner for you!
Lisa

Oh I hear ya, Lisa!
My mom, who is very sweet, used to cross the line by telling the girls in a sarcastic voice, "You're too old to be going potty in your pants." And they were 2-1/2.
My advice is don't let anyone tell you when your kids are ready. I wasn't ready when one of my girls was, and then when I was ready, my littlest girls wasn't. It's all about timing! Loren GGG Jan.2005 @ 28wks

Mine can join you...
on the positive side, since I just found out mine all have cavities today (another story altogether), my friends and I decided that if I didn't fix their teeth or potty train them, that perhaps I can keep the boys away from them...you know, rotting teeth and Depends aren't so attractive...
What a crappy day...I think I am going to open a bottle of champagne...it's not just for celebrations anymore.

One of mine was almost four and two were over four when they trained. So you've got some time before yours break my record! Kristen

lol... mine are not pt'd either! Two of the three have occasional interest in going on the potty and wearing big kid undies, but the other has no one iota of interest at all. We have been stalled in this stage since the beginning of 2008. I think that their lack of progress is all my fault these days. We're never home, or at least I feel that way, and then when we are, I often don't push the issue. And when they wear underwear, we have a ton of accidents because they refuse to try when I suggest/ encourage it. I've tried rewards, a timer, lots of excitement/ praise, but if they don't want to try when I want them to, it's a huge battle. And then a few minutes later we have an accident... never fails. I keep hoping that one day it will just click and we will all get it right. And don't worry... my triplets will be right there with yours in history! lol

You'll get there!!!
This is what worked for us. We did a few days of completely NAKED from the waist down. We had a couple of accidents but once they peed on the floor once or twice (and helped wipe it up) they were pretty freaked out by it. We have wood floors in our house so this really wasn't a huge deal (and no one was allowed on the furniture!).
Then we did a couple of days of JUST shirts and undies. This allowed them to recognize they had to go but was one less layer to pull down. Then we added easy pants (maybe one day later).
It took a few days. I did it in January so we just stayed home/in, invited people over, etc.
Our main incentive was stickers. I put 3 sheets of blank computer paper on the wall. Each sheet had a kid's name on it. They got one sticker for pee, two stickers for poop. They LOVED getting their stickers. They loved comparing who had what sticker. They loved saying "I got LOTS of stickers compared to ____".
When we finally did go out and about I took extra stuff. They were told that if anyone had an accident we would leave IMMEDIATELY. And we did. We left a lot of fun places IMMEDIATELY and went home (I always had stuff to change them into of course but we still went home as punishment).
One of my kiddos could have been trained at 2 if I would have worked at it. He HATED being wet/poopy/etc. He and Sis were trained at just over 2.5 years old. My other guy was a little over 3. And he still will have an occasional accident. But it's ALWAYS at home when he gets busy. He KNOWS not to have an accident when we are out and about or we LEAVE!
He also still needs a pull up at nap and night and my dd wears one at night. They are just SUCH deep sleepers.
Those are things that worked for us. It wasn't easy and it wasn't fun. You'll GET there though!!! Julie BGB ~ June 16, 2005 @ 31wks 3 days Samuel Jonas (3lbs 11oz) Leona Ruth (3lbs 5oz) Gabriel Douglas (2lbs 11oz)
