Help! I am ready to do something drastic, but what will really work? I don't think my kids really have that many toys, but it is more than we can keep cleaned up. I don't have space to store and rotate toys. Has anyone drastically reduced their childrens' number of toys? What did you keep? Any guidance is much appreciated. Thank you!! (My trips are 5 but not in school yet).

Can you sit down and go through them (maybe without the kids) and determine what they've outgrown?

Try to gather the outgrown toys and maybe sell some at your multiples group.

I have a sale in the spring and I'm getting my pile ready.

You could also sell them at Once Upon a Child. They won't give you a ton of money, but at least you'll be getting organized.

Also, donate. Clean them up and haul them over to a shelter or The Goodwill.

I'm trying to keep the educational stuff. I sneak out stuffed animals and babyish books from time to time.

i bought lots of plastic shoe boxes from the dollar store and a closetmaid 9-cube shelf, which helps to keep my boys' books and toys organized in less space. we have other shelvings and small bins as well.

i also try to weed out those little ones - toys from mcdonald's and burger king, toys from birthday party goodie bags, and misc ones that friends randomly give, and i either donate them or throw them away depending what they are and what condition they're in.

if i am absolutely sure that my sons have outgrown a toy or book, then it will go to goodwill or the salvation army.

Maybe call Goodwill and SA ahead of time to ensure they even accept toys as donations (They don't where we live due to recent recalls). It was a pain to get them ready only to be refused at the donation center!
