I have one kid who keeps a cough pretty much permanently all winter every winter. Her first two winters we tried everything to get rid of it and couldn't (pretty much the same things you are saying - tubes, allergy meds, etc.). At that age she had a runny nose, clogged ears, etc with it. We did chest xrays, breathing treatments, IV & shot antibiotics.
We are past the point of it really being a major issue - it doesn't cause her real breathing issues anymore, make her puke anymore, seem related to fevers or ear infections anymore, etc. As long as she doesn't have any other symptoms, we just ignore it and go on with our lives (we don't hold her out of school or activities for the cough as I assume it is normal for her and not contagious).
I don't know that that helps you at all, but just know that it may be that status quo and hopefully the symptoms will diminish when their systems are a little more mature. I am not saying to stop trying, but just know that if you have tried it all, there isn't anything else to do but try and wait it out, and that long-term it may get better with or without intervention. Ditto what Megan said. We know that the coughs are caused by allergies ( damn cedar trees here in Texas). We know the routine by now and we go about daily life.

I am having the same issue with one of mine. In fact, we are heading to the doctor for the umpteenth time for it. I think our next step is probably an ENT, though that didn't help for you. But she is miserable and everyone around her is miserable. I think we are on month 4 of this. When she has a runny nose it gets so much worse. Maybe we need to see an asthma doctor. She is on singulair at night and that helps the night time cough unless she has a cold to go along with it. Like now. Then she doesn't sleep and hence, no one sleeps. We also were told to give her clairitin daily. Doesn't seem to work either.
I hope you find some answers. It is hard to watch them cough all the time. Yes we go on our daily life, however, she coughs non stop. It is exhausting for her. Daily life might go on with a few coughs every hour, but not with this. Ann

perhaps your drs already tried this- I'm unfamiliar with the terminology. but another mom I was just talking with recently had a similar situation. her boys' coughs went on for almost 2 years! she finally took them to some ENT and he said their adenoids and tonsils were enlarged and that was causing the coughing. he gave them medicine that shrunk the adenoids (?) and the coughs ended. the boys also ended up sleeping so much better and finally gaining weight.
I hope you find something that helps. Mary

here's some advice I got today from a freinds grandmother...
To stop night time coughing in a child (or adult as we found out personally), put Vicks Vapo Rub generously on the soles of your feet, cover with socks and the heavy deep coughing will stop in about 5 minutes.
it's worth a try! Jessica BGB-Tate, Teely & Jackson October 14, 2008 (34w3d)

My aunt swears by this remedy although I've never personally tried it.
