We have peg-perego 30/30 so it will be a while until we need to upgrade to a larger seat but I am curious as to what you all suggest. It has to be pretty narrow because I want the option to have 3 across one bench row of a Yukon XL.

Thanks!
Mom to 8 month old trips that are going to outgrow their car seats soon.

You are gonna want a convertible, because the new recommendation from the American Academy of Peds is two years before forward facing.

As far as fitting all in one row...I did that for a while, but now they are on different rows because I got tired of dealing with the she's hitting me, biting me, pinching me which started at 2.5 years old.

The Sunshine Radian XTSL is the slimest seat out there. It rear faces to 45 lbs, and forward faces to 80 lbs. And the harness goes to 53."

Here's a side by side comparison of a bunch of seats to help you decide.

Here's a lesson I learned...When I made the switch, I went with the Britax Roundabout, because it was the safest...Not realizing I was gonna have crazy tall little girls, so the seat only lasted us two years. If I had went with the sunshine radian or one of the larger Britax, I could have gotten to the point of needing a booster instead of forking out for the Britax Frontier to keep my harnessed. Oh well, lesson learned.

We used our pegs until the babies were 12 months old! (love the pegs!!) We bought the Britax Marathon although expensive---we felt they were the safest! WE were getting ready to take a 15 hour trip and wanted forward facing so that Elmo could grace us with his presence!! I know they recommend rear-facing until 2 years now but we feel that we have a safe vehicle and really need the entertainment for them!! We have 2 in the 3rd seat and one in the middle seats!

We have the Graco Nautilus. It is great because you won't have to buy another car seat or booster! It converts to high back booster and then a regular booster!

We have the Sunshine Radian 80's and all 3 fit accross the bench seat of a 4Runner so I'm sure they would fit in the second row bench of a Yukon XL. We had to forward face our daghter earlier because rear facing there wasn't enough room for my husband to drive, but the other two were rear facing in the Radian's in the 4Runner. We actually just bough a big SUV similar size to the XL and we are putting two in the 3rd row front facing and 1 in the second row rear facing (he's the smallest) with the 3/4 side of the bench seat always folded forward to give more room for loading them in, just an idea. So far I love the Radian's they are so slim that it's so easy to configure them in really any auto. If you research them a little on line you can get a pretty good deal, a lot of the companies offer multiple discounts if your buying 3.

I have a tahoe and we bought radian 80's. I love them. They did stick out a bit in the rear facing position though. I turned mine around after they turned one and once Averie hit 20lbs. I didnt want to turn them and not her so I waited. They were about 14 months I think.

We have the Radian 80s and like one of the pp I ended up with tall children with long torsos. The length that the carseats reference is total body height. If your child(ren) has/have a long torso, they may outgrow the seat sooner. Check the carseat.org site but I believe when there is less than an inch between the top of their head and the top of the carseat, they have outgrown it regardless of total height. We have 3 Radians across the second row of our Toyota Sienna and there is still room for them to drop things (shoes, toys, books, and yes snack cups) between them. I had two Radians plus a Graco infant carrier in the back of my Nissan Altima at one point and the Radian is narrower than the infant carrier (might not have worked because of the length of the Radian and the driver's legs). Some countries actually recommend even longer than 2yo for rear-facing. The new recommendation has more to do with the support provided to the head and spine by the seat when they are in that position in the event of a crash than the safety of any particular vehicle.
