Just curious when your Triplets dropped their afternoon nap. Mine are almost 2 1/2 (born Nov 5 th 2007) and fear they are almost done with afternoon naps even though Mommy is NOT....but Oh Well what can you do?

What age did your kids not need their afternoon naps?

We are at 2.75 adjusted (nearing 3 actual) and they still nap. I have one that could go without if we put her to bed at night an hour earlier. The other two...not a chance. I will likely wait until at least two of them are capable of going without nap before we give them up. I suspect that will be around the holidays this fall/winter.

My kids went through a stage somewhere between ages 2 & 3 where I thought they were going to drop it, but I wasn't ready and pushed through. They STILL nap now, at almost age 5. And truly, they still need it. One actually doesn't nap *every* day, but she still has "quiet time" - she has books, puzzles, etc. to play with. As long as I don't hear her, life is good.

When we were little, kids still napped in kindergarten. I can clearly remember being upper elementary school age, and during the summer we still had "quiet time" for 2 hours every afternoon. We didn't have to sleep, but we did have to stay on the bed and be quiet. (We usually read during that time.) I realize now that it was for my mom's sanity, and I fully intend to implement the practice at my house! I figure as long as we never quit having nap/quiet time, they won't buck me on it. Hopefully.

My kids are almost exactly a year older than yours and we still nap.

I've found that about every 6 months or so the kids will go thru a phase where their sleeping habits are somewhat disrupted and then after a week or so, it straightens back out.

I can't deal with how cranky my kids are without a nap, so I MAKE them nap. I sit and monitor them until they fall asleep to enforce no talking or playing. When I do this, they are asleep within minutes. Left to their own devices, they'll stay up and talk and play.

Good luck!

My kids just turned 3 and I can not get them to nap in their beds on the weekends at all anymore since December. We opened their cribs to day beds in December and that was it for nap time. They still need naps, but they fight it. So on the weekends we either all have quiet time on the couch for 2 hours and sometimes they fall asleep or we go for a drive and they fall asleep in the car. During the week they nap at day care everyday. Good luck, I wish they still napped like regular because they really do need it (mine do)!

My oldest is 2 1/2 and I put her down for a 2 hour nap everyday. She just recently has had a few days where she won't sleep and will just play in her crib (yes, crib...my kids will be in cribs with tents until they are too long or too heavy to physically sleep in their crib!!) Most days though, she does fall asleep. On the few days where she hasn't napped she has been a bear at night. Also, I think with spring/summer coming she will need the nap even more as there will be an increase in physical activity/outdoor play that will make her more tired.

I like the idea the pp mentioned about rest time. I think rest time is a good transition for kids from nap time.

>physically sleep in their crib!!)

You are doing the right thing! Mine were well past age FOUR when we took the crib tents off and converted to beds. I am SOOO glad we waited so long. At 4, you can just tell them "don't get out of bed or you will get in trouble" and they will! At 2, no way they would have the self-control!

We had ONE instance per child of unauthorized exit. Put them back in cribs for a few weeks as punishment, then gave them back their beds. That's it - easypeasy! Everybody ridiculed me for keeping them in cribs so long, but it was so much easier when they were a little older!!

Mine are about the same age as yours and they are doing the same thing. Sometimes they take one and sometimes they dont. I sure miss the nap

Mine are the same age, born on Oct 29th, I know this is a bad habit to start but since my monkeys started climbing out and we went to toddler beds I lay on their floor until they fall asleep. On days I do not they do not nap. I then army crawl out. Everyday that I lay there until they go to sleep they all three nap. If I don't they stay up tearing up their room. Good luck, most days they fall asleep within 30 minutes and it's worth it to me to give up 30 minutes if that means they nap 1-2 hours afterwards. I'll take anything I can get!
