In desperation during the last wet spell I laid a bunch of furniture on its side and had an obstacle course . . . they LOVED it and it was entertaining for everyone from 10 months to 8 years. Jack, 8 1/2 Abraham, Dylan and Zane 6 1/2 and now . . . . Tobias, new last June!

Indoor bowling (you need empty water or soda bottles, can decorate them with stickers or whatever, put some rice inside to keep them steady)
"Ice-skating": On a carpeted floor, give each kids two paper plates and show them how to shuffle their feet in a skating motion. With shoes on they will slip less (good for learning) and without shoes they can go faster
Dance party: pump up the music and dance
Talent show: Gather the fam in the living room and everyone gets a turn to show off...singing, a piece of "artwork", dancing, telling jokes, etc.
Build a fort out of sheets and chairs
Play charades (either you can write words on pieces of paper and you can be the reader and the kids can be the player...or go through magazines and tear out pictures of things they can act out such as a baby, a dog, etc.)
If you can teach them how to play simple games on their own...duck duck goose, what time is it mr. fox, mother may I
Treasure hunt - takes a lot of prep but is really fun watching them being excited and running around
Relay races (good for indoors b/c you can have them go up and down in a hallway) - a dress up relay race is fun, they have to run to one side, put on an article of clothing, run to the other side, get another article of clothing, etc. until they have all the dress up pieces on. You can do other races like balancing a plastic egg (if you have easter left over) on a spoon, or if you have stacking blocks from when they are babies they have to get each block to the other side and then stack it up but can only take one block at a time
Indoor basketball: Using a laundry basket and bucket of socks. This actually helps with laundry, have them find the pairs and once they have all the pairs you can fold the pairs into a ball (or teach them how if they can do it). Then have them throw the socks and see how many they can get in the basket.

Hi,
I usually have the kids finger paint, color, playdoh, help with baking such as making cookies. They like to have free play in our basement. Build a fort, dress up.
Wow I love the other PP ideas!
