#79, "best stores (cheap!) for wide and x-wide shoes?"

Shoe prices kill me! Two of my boys wear wides, and Austin wears extra wide. I hate going to Target or Old Navy and seeing $12 shoes that won't fit my boys b/c of width! I have a Stride Rite outlet in town, but even at the outlet, their shoes are $25+.

What other places have a decent selection at better prices? I am about to have to buy another set of shoes for everyone, and I am going to ball up and cry if I have to fork out $80 or more!

Payless Shoes have wide fit but I have not seen the extra wide. I'm in the same boat as you with my boys. Last season I bought Geox and Stride Rites for 20some dollars from Nordstroms during their semi annual sale. They have another huge sale coming up in November and Im gonna wait till then. If you find anything good pleassssse let me know. Shoes are darn expensive.

ETA if you have a Nordstroms card you earn double points the next few months and get "notes" as they call them. Basically you get some amount of money back and its worked out great for me. They dont expire (although there is an expiration date on them) and I use them for the next time Im gonna buy them shoes. HTH

We go to stride Rite as well (one X wide and one wide), but I have never paid more than 20 for a pair of shoes there. I don't know if I have been just lucky and caught sales or what. Generally, we don't pay more than $15 a pair there.

Call and ask them about their upcoming sales if you don't have much luck finding anything else.

My boys could only wear Stride Rite too. But, finally, they are now fitting in regular shoes. So there is hope for cheap shoes.

We have a local Marshall's store that has a Mega Shoe section and I usually get some good prices on shoes there, but it's hit or miss. I've seen Payless with lots of wide shoes for kids. If you want to go the Stride Rite route, try either Amazon.com or Kidsurplus.com. Kidsurplus doesn't always have all of the sizes, but you can get lucky. I just bought my son some Stride Rite sneakers for $20 (plus shipping). Good luck. I know exactly what you mean. How can they charge so much for little kids shoes???

Stride Rite is the best for chunky feet, I've had 2 little chunky footed boys. HOWEVER my mom has had huge success finding extra wide shoes at K Mart. NOt the mos tstylish shoes, but they do the job and the boys seem to fit in them fine. In a stride Rite shoe my 2 boys wore double wides, they fit into theK Mart shoes fine. Good lcuk on your search!!! Crocks work great for the summer!

I have had more luck with the sale section of the stride rite web site than the outlet near us. Finding Wide or XWide at the outlet is iffy but I just got some great sneakers on the web - but still over $25. The Lands End site also has an overstocks section and carry some wide shoes. I LOVE these slip on sneakers and they are $19.99 each:

Jenny~

Have you checked out The Children's Place online? They have some great selections and sales although I have to say, they've let me down lately because their inventory is low.

I try to stalk a pair until it gets to be $10 or so.

And I've scored some Stride Rites for $20 on sale. I think that's the best I've ever seen them, but it was worth it because they really do have a great wide shoe.

Jenny,

We had the same problem with my oldest daughter who at almost 6 STILL has a wide foot and my little man who is extra wide. After years of Stride Rite we have found that wide shoes from Payless do fit him depending on the shoe. I talked to one of the associates to ask about extra wide and she convinced me to try on the wide and low and behold they worked. She explained most of their shoes run wide normally so the ones marked wide are much bigger. My two little girls can't wear Payless regular shoes because their feet are too narrow but fit in any other regular shoe fine. So worth a try.

The other thing I can't reccomend enough is crocs for your wide little guys feet. All of my kids love them, but Grant especially because the toe box is big and doesn't pinch anywhere. He got his first pair just a little before 2 and has begged for them ever since. For winter they have the mammoth (lined crocs) which he loves. We got a really good deal on ours at shoebuy.com. Free shipping both ways so you can get them and try them on at home and send them back for free if they don't work. They also send out pretty good coupons if you register with their site.

Good luck. I got sick and tired of spending over $150 everytime I went to buy 4 pairs of shoes.

Stride Rite really is the best for chunky feet. I've gotten several pairs of super cute Stride Rite shoes on Ebay this season. I just got black mary janes for $3 and brown/pink t-strap sneakers for $7 for DD. Even with shipping cost, they were under $10 a pair and look like new! I'm not kidding. It's amazing. I bought my boys matching navy suede sneakers (also SR) from a mom of twins on Ebay. $12 for both pairs.

Check it out!

my mil just bought my girls some shoes from DOLLAR GENERAL! They are SUPER WIDE and were 7.00
My feet are pretty wide but my girls arent and the shoes are very wide on them.
I have personally not gone into the store in years (not in my area or town) but she buys clothes for them and they are super cute and last longer then the wal mart clothes she use to buy.
I cant believe that she gets such great quality from DOLLAR GENERAL! Lol.
