#7934, "Anyone else? Anyone? Anyone?"

Am I the only slave to the potty? We have been potty trained for more than a year and really, I feel like I am in the bathroom every five minutes. I counted today from 3:30 to 4:00, I made five trips to the bathroom with one trip(let) or another.

I haven't taught them to go by themselves to the bathroom yet, because their bathroom is upstairs, at the end of the hall, and away from the living space, and if we're in the basement, it is two stories away, basically. If I had a bathroom closer to the places where we play during the day I would have given them more freedom but I really don't want them screwing around.

I am debating making them go the first time someone has to go to avoid this nonsense of the constant up and down, but is that fair? I debate this with myself quite a bit.

Potty training has kinda sucked in this way. It was easier with diapers, for real.

Don't get me started with the whole fascination with public restrooms that are hideously gross, but that we have to visit frequently. *Sigh*

No idea what this post is really about. Answer with whatever you want. There are no wrong answers and if you have a vent just throw it out there. It's all fair game at this point.

I think you need to let them learn how to go by themselves. Katie can and will do it alone unless she poops. My other 2 need some work. I'm trying to push that this summer. They have supposedly been "independently potty trained" since starting preschool last year but that isn't true. In reality, they only used the bathroom a few times at school. Ben and Abby are stubborn and don't want to go alone most of the time. Our other challenge is we have higher height vanities and short kids and it isn't easy for them to turn on the water to wash their hands. They washed their hands alone all the time at school so I know they can do that. At almost 4 it is time to teach them how to do it themselves, at least when they pee. I know I am totally sick of having to take kids to the potty.

I know I have to I just don't want the extra mess. I can only imagine... LOL. Time to cut some strings, right? However, Taryn told on me the other day that I made her go by herself because I was in the shower. I had her bring in her seat and her stole and coached her how to get on the potty, but she was still pissed. DH wasn't thrilled either. What's with these people? LOL.

Does he expect you to go to kindergarten with them and take them to the potty? I don't think that can happen. Eventually they need do do it alone.

Potty slave here. I am thinking I need that portable one in the house. I would take it with me wherever I go...that way I don't have to run to the bathroom all the time with them...the bathroom comes with me!

Susan

I just got a cook portable potty on amazon.com. It is small and much neater than a regular potty. Sarah did go #2 on the big potty.

Some people collect strollers, I seem to collect potties.

I have three froggy potties. They use these on and off.

I have three different lidded potties...two with cushie seats and they are in the basement for when they are there or outside playing.

I have two removable toilet seats...with steps attached. One for an upstairs toilet, one for the downstairs one. These are annoying to clean.

I have a potty lid from Home Depot that has the toddler seat and adult seat integrated into one....by far the easiest to clean.

9 potties for 3 children! Ack!

I keep asking myself...do I really need more potties?!?

My kids are almost 3 and go potty by themselves...if they didn't I would also be a slave to the potty. They give a shout if they need to be wiped after #2. I am sure they don't wipe themselves very well with they pee, but whatever I bathe them every other day. I would agree potty training is the worst idea I had. Why the heck did I want to train my 2 1/2 year olds? I would prefer they were still in diapers. I cringe when we are in the middle of Target and I hear "I gotta go potty?" And then having to bring a potty chair to the park..ugh! Agreed diapers were way easier, but I guess I am happy to not change the messy ones. Good luck!

I have three little potties from IKEA in the hallway still. If I'm not busy I take them in the bathroom, so I don't have to empty and clean the potties, but if I'm busy they go by themselves on the little ones. I still have to wipe, but don't have to do it all for them or sit right there when it's a long job! Maybe take a little one downstairs for you for some of the time????

Jamye Ikea has portable potties like the baby bjorn but only $4 each. That is one suggestion! The other one is let them go themselves. They are old enough now. I'm learning that with the new house - no babygates, no monitors, they have free reign except for a couple rooms.

At least yours are potty trained. DD is still in a pull up apparently with potty training resistance as the sheet the pedi gave me says. I am teaching the boys to wipe themselves too.
