#8080, "diffucult eater at age 5"

Hi its good to be back, i used to post when the kids were babies then left it a whilst. My little boy is a good eater generally and one of my identical girls, though she too doesnt eat 'Our" food is at least willing to taste our food and i can see an end to her slight fussiness. Our other identical girl though is soooooooooo fussy she wont taste anything and spits 90% of what i can get her to taste out. They have an excellent diet with 80% of dinner being salad or vegetables but say for instant, Our little boy has an extremely loose front tooth so i want to make softer meals for the children. I made omelate ( with ham, cheese, tomoatoe and parselY),, my two eaters gobbled it, little Sophie took one bite (after a lot of talking into) and spat it out..... she ended up eating a bowl of tomoatoes and scrambled egg. She always eats well but i would like MY job easier so i dont have to make 3+ meals a night. Any ideas.

thanks for reading,

When my kids turned 4, I decided I had had enough of cooking several meals. I made what I wanted to make then they had to eat it. If they didn't eat, they sat at the table until bedtime or until they ate atleast 2 bites of everything on their plate. If they didn't eat 2 bites of everything, then they got it for breakfast (breakfast was timed for 30 minutes) if they didn't eat it for breakfast...we went to lunch. For dinner, they would get something new, and then we would continue the process. It only took twice with each child. Now they will eat at least 2 bites of anything I put on their plates.

Good luck!

Yes, i have a freind, Karen, who did exactly that with her children (twins)...... just can not make sophie eat cooked (or more like two or more ingredients put together) food. I hope she will grow out of it but i had a freind visit today with 7 and 9 year olds..... who were just bigger versions of Sophie ????? I DO need to be stricker,..... want a holiday from the Quads.... here in Australia???? Please???? LOL

I would love a holiday in Australia!!!! LOL I will get there one day, my husband and I have been talking about since before we got married.

My son Christian was the pickiest eater I have ever had to deal with. When he was 2 he put himself on a liquid diet for about 2 weeks and I didn't even notice at first. He got the point the only thing he would eat was Chicken Nuggets and hot dogs and cereal. I was really bad. The first time I sent him to bed without him eating, I cried. It was soooo hard for me. He cried in his bed that he was hungry. I even took him out of bed and offered him his dinner again...he still didn't eat it. At almost 7, he is still a very picky eater. Ex: H loves Chocolate Milk with Hersheys Choc Syrup. But if I make hot chocolate (I used to tell him I made it with Choc syrup) he wont touch it. He still wont eat potatos. He doesn't like condiments of any kind (except Salt but that is only because we wont let him have it so of course it is his favorite thing) Doesn't like vegetables but will eat them. Doesn't like fruit, but will eat an apple.

HOWEVER, even after saying all that. Even though he doesn't really like/want to eat this stuff, he know what will happen if he doesn't eat it. It is my experience, so far, that they don't grow out of it. My nephew is 16 and he still doesn't eat anything because his mother never required him to.

Good luck! It's hard to decide to wage this war over food...because let me tell you it is a war. LOL

Wow you scared me when you wrote about your Nephew at age 16.... what have i got myself into. We have salad or vegetables (usually vegetable at the moment because we have just come out of winter) and that is one thing i am anal about. No vegies no desert. the girls are better then Cody with their vegetalbes/salad.... in fact Sophie has renamed herself Sophie Salad Henderson... lol.... I just need to get her to try flavours... her sister (identical) has come a long way but i just dont see Sophie changeing in the near future because in general Jessie is bigger, eats better, eats more and is altogeher (eating and personality) braver then the littler girl. Cody loves his meat and is happier with sauce on his pasta... the girls (both) will eat pasta but not with anything on it (not even cheese).
Take care Dawn, and would love to have you stay if ever you come to Oz.
