#8182, "Kids feeling left out!"

I have BBG triplets that are now 4 years old as of late August. In a matter of a few months it seems like they have matured to the point of wanting to include me in their play. My daughter wants me to play dolls with her and in doing so, my sons want to join it (it's exciting that mommmy is playing!) Problem is my daughter gets exasperated that the boys are crashing her fun. When I tell them to wait while I have some alone time with their sister and I will play with them later, they get sad and cry, feeling hurt because they wanted to be included. The same thing happens when it's time to play with the boys, my daughter doesn't seem to understand and goes and hides in her room either pouting or crying. I have tried playdates for my daughter, but at this point the mothers like to stay with their daughters and I cannot stop for 2 hours straight to entertain the monther, when I have to get housework / dinner done. Also playdates with boys don't seem to work at this age because they parellel play. I am on my own from 6am - 6p.m. with a ill husband, so it's up to me! Any suggestions? Thanks!

Have you tried using the timer? We are a bit behind you in age, but the girls all want me to play with them...I just set the timer, for 10-20min. We have used the timer quite a bit (it is an absolute Godsend!) and they all know that when the timer goes off that their turn is over. They sometimes whine and cry, or pout afterwards, but after a few times through the trio they accept it.

Teenagers are good with playing with kids, but if its a sitter will it cost you, or can you find someone to play with them. Maybe a younger girl who wants to practice being a sitter, or an older girl taking teaching classes who needs experience.

I don't mind coloring with them and doing arts and crafts and being outside. I'll take them to any play place, play ground. I'm not good at catch, so got a tee. I am ok at soccer and swimming with them. Mine are older now. It's good to have 2 boys who can wrestle around with each other and give you a break, trust me, later she'll be wrestling with them and winning. Try tickling her if she cries, to get her out of it. Play with all 3 of them together maybe.

Try setting up play with them and then exiting, like building blocks and legos. If they are into it, walk away to the kitchen and talk and call back.

ahh, mine calling now, i've been caught,,,
