#8364, "How to move all 3 to same nap time?"

Hello All,

Our trio are 20 months old and are now adjusting from a late morning nap to an afternoon nap.

The girls are napping in the afternoon fine, but my son is so tired in the morning that he still settles in for his 2 hour nap around 11am.

So, I have one sleeping from 11-1pm we all have lunch and then the girls are going to sleep for their naps. The trouble is that saddles me to the house for most of the day.

Any suggestions on getting my boy to push his nap back to later in the day?

Thanks!
Lora

This might be silly however, have you tried putting the girls down when their brother goes down? They may just take to the earlier nap...

otherwise, I might try adjusting each nap by 15 minutes or so every couple of days -- boy goes down 15 minutes later, girls go down 15 minutes earlier etc.....until you've reached a mutual nap time.

good luck...

I agree with Janet - will the girls go down with their brother? One of my girls is more flexible - even if she's not totally tired, she'll go down without a fight and will just play quietly in her bed until she falls asleep.

Otherwise, try to see if you can split the difference. When we first made the switch the less flexible girl was getting sleepy around 11:30 (I was shooting for a 12:30-1 nap time), and so I split their lunch into two snacks, and we'd eat around 11:30 and then when they woke up. That was enough to keep her awake a bit longer. Eventually she was able to make it until 1, with lunch between 12-12:30; even now, when she's starting to get tired earlier (like when she's had an early morning), lunch is usually enough to keep her up until nap time.

Janet's advice is what we did. Ours wasn't as far apart, but one did get tired much earlier. Moving the early one ahead 10 or 15 minutes, and the later one back the same, works great. After a few days they should be almost at the same.

Am imagining that your ds is usually the first to be up and around in the morning? That would help explain his becoming tired earlier. Or perhaps he's more energetic in the a.m. hours.

Hi Lora,

My trio is 15 mos and we recently moved from 10am and 3pm naps to 1 nap right after lunch at about 1245ish. I decided to make the switch because my son was sleeping less and less in the am and often didnt want to sleep at all in the afternoon. I decided to switch all of them together because they've always been on the same sleep schedule. We're about a month into it and although they all sleep very well- at least 2 hrs sometimes 3, they are still very tired by 11am. SO- every day I take them out somewhere- target, park, friend's or family's homes- just to keep them occupied/ distracted. Its a lot of work, but I like getting out, and they do just fine as long as they're out and about. For me, I much prefer this to 1 hr twice a day because I can get so much more done around the house with longer naps. And I figure they'll adjust soon enough. Good luck!

Nicole
