What ideas do you have for Crazy Hair day? My kids have fine straight hair, and isn't very long (cut in a bob), which makes it a real challenge!

You could make lots of little braids or pony tails. Stick in some pipe cleaners in the braids and they will stick up. You could also use temporary colors in their hairs. You can get these in most stores.

I did the exact same thing, but in some of the pony tails I braided them the night before, then took them out in the morning to make them wavy. I also left some braided, some straight and some were curled. The pipecleaners worked, but my daughter's hair was long and it didn't stick up straight the way I was hoping, it was too heavy. Still cute, though.

I had the exact opposite problem - not enough hair to wrap around & cover the pipe cleaner. Which is why the pipe cleaners ended up being decoration instead of functional!

The PP has good ideas. You can also slick it back with gel. We like to slick it back and to the side, and spray the school colors on it in stripes. I never thought of pipe cleaners to hold it up - will definitely use that next year!

Is this for Awana? Next week is Crazy Hair Day for Awana. Last year I put ten spikes on Caidan's hair using a stiff gel, and I put ten separate pony tails on Caeleigh.

I've been thinking about using gel on Caeleigh's and also using pipe cleaners so that I can create zigzags that stand straight out from her head. Her hair is now down to below her waist, so the zigzags would be pretty impressive -- so long as they don't pull themselves over.

I've also been thinking about using the temporary color sprays for them.

Lots of gel and temporary hair color spray. We buy the cans of spray-on hair color (neon green, yellow, red, orange, blue) at the party supply store!

Yep, for AWANA!

C - used a small (bathroom rinse cup size) plastic cup and pulled ponytail around it, secured at top with elastic ponytail band then tied with pipe cleaner

E - 2 side ponytails, pulled last one halfway thru to make messy buns (like a messy Princess Leia), secured with elastic ponytail band then tied with pipe cleaners

J - tried to do a mohawk but despite 1/2 a tube of stiff gel, his baby fine hair just wasn't having it. Got most of it to stick up, but it fell in front & back. He was thrilled with it - "Mommy I have a horsey-head!"

M - lots of tiny ponytails curled and secured with elastic ponytail band then tied with pipe cleaners - spiraled the pipe cleaners

As you can see, they were NOT thrilled about having to stop for a picture on their way in! Could M be snarling any more?? Oh well!

THANK YOU SO MUCH for all your help!!

I LOVED Camille's hair-do!! I'm gonna' have to attempt some variation on this for Caeleigh!!

Also, I think that James' style looks even "crazier" because it ISN'T a mohawk. Rather, it looks more like a bi-hawk!

Too, too cute! You'll need to keep this picture available and black-mail some people in the future.

I'll warn you - the plastic cup kept slipping out and the hairdo had to be completely redone. (I would have just left it out, but she was NOT going to be the only kid without wacky hair!) Doing it again, I would try and anchor the cup somehow. Maybe a hole through the top of the cup and some hair pulled through that? Assuming Caeleigh has more hair than Camille - my kids wouldn't have enough to pull through.

When are you going to come find me on Facebook? (I couldn't find you.)
