We are planning our bbg triplets' 6th birthday party and are looking for a craft project they could do during the party that would appeal to both boys and girls, ages 6-12. Would rather not use the oven, and would like to avoid anything super messy. Needs to be able to be done indoors in the family or living room -- no playroom or basement here. Thanks for any ideas you may have.

I was going to suggest something along the lines of an at home build a bear type party - but just realized ages from 6-12; would probably work for the younger ones but the older ones probably wouldn't be too interested

My kids love to paint those plaster figurines you buy at walmart--I usually get the single use string of paint pots because they are thicker and don't seem to make a huge mess. I line the table with paper and they sit for at least half an hour. After they're done painting their figurine they paint on the paper. Clean up is easy soap and water.

yOU COULD DO SOMETHING WITH ALL THE STICKY FOAM STICKERS AND PIECES THE CRAFT STORES SELL.....Like door hangers, hats, signs, the pieces come inall different shapes and sizes and the stickers that go to them do as well. easy and mess free. Kids will sit and do stickers FOREVER!! Sorry about the caps lock i had on.

For my kids 6th birthday we did a party at Michael's the craft store. Granted this was in their craft room. They painted little wooden trinket boxes. They had these cute little wooden cut outs (car, frog, train, flower, crown etc.) that they glued to the tops. If you had a big long table that you covered with plastic and had the kids were old shirts you could do easily at home. The girls decorated theirs with little jewels after they painted. They used all kinds of cool colored paint including glitter paint. The boxes were around $5. or $6. each. Then the little wooden cut outs were another $1. or $2. Not sure if paint is too messy for you. But at that age they really enjoy it and I think they are old enough to sit and paint and not be running around getting paint everywhere. The craft store put each box in a paper gift bag with their name on it. My kids still talk about that party and still have their boxes on their dressers with all their prize possessions!

Check out orientaltrading.com. Kind of junky stuff, but all-inclusive craft projects that you could get ideas from.

In my experience, either you get a really simple one that kids can really do by themselves, and then it is over too quickly for some kids, or you get an involved project that kids get involved in, but it requires lots of adult attention/help.

best wishes for a good party!

a mom that spoke at one of our meetings always has the kids make their own goody bag and party hat, in whatever the theme of the party is. not sure if that would work for you. they did them once everyone arrived at the party- she'd have the materials set out on a table for them.

ex- pirate theme- the kids would make their own pirate hats and decorate their bags

one time they had a cooking theme- so the kids made chef hats and bags.

she had tons of ideas, and they were all so simple and cute.
