#1401, "Update on Bullies"

We talked to the Principle who was amazing. She helped us and my ds. He is in a new class and he is SO happy. The new teacher said that he fit right. As far as the other family, some people questioned me that maybe I over reacted. I didn't. You know when your kid is scared. I don't believe it is o.k. for a kid to tell another kid I am going to kill you. And to do it out of anger and to be jealous that is just not right. Well, the father of this boy came to school and tried to pick a fight with my dh! My dh kept saying it's all over my son is in a new class it's over. This man kept going at it with my dh (this is when the kids were getting let out of school). Now I know where this boy gets his temper from. Can you believe this.I'm just glad we took action and my ds is happy.

You definitely did not overreact. I would have done the same thing. Actually, I did recently talk to the principal about a kid who had been bullying my trio (stealing lunch, pushing, shoving & etc.). I do not know what the principal did about it. Last time I spoke with her, she said she didn't know who this kid was and that they would monitor the kids more closely. Meantime, I just reminded my trio they have a right to defend themselves against this boy. The situation seem to have improved since my intervention. I don't know if the principal ever talked to this boy as I requested. DS later told me he thinks he scared off this boy. According to DS, when the boy came up to him one day, he looked straight into the boy's eyes and said "I know karate". The boy reportedly just stood there and didn't know what to say and he has not bothered him since. Who knows what made him stop.

It's no wonder that boy who was bullying your son acts the way he does. I've often thought the parents are at least partially responsible for the bully's attitude.

Hi Div,

Thank you. I am very proud of how my kids act. Sometimes I think parents are either saying boys will be boys or that's the way kids are, but then if that's true how will the become good adults. You know what I am saying?
I'm glad your trio's problem is solved. And good for your DS to stand up to him like that. I allways tell my trio to stick together and watch out for each other. Which they do, this boy just has anger problems which I'm happy the school is going to help him with. I don't think he would get much help at home (now that I see what his father's all about).
