Anyone home school their triplets? We just started home schooling our 1st grade triplets.
Would love to hear from our moms who are doing this.

I do. In a nutshell:

We started when they were four and now they are seven. It's a rewarding task and sometimes grueling. The pros out weigh the cons by a landslide. My husband has my back and I am surrounded by women who are both new, seasoned and in the trenches with me.

We use Math U See, library (for science and readers and history, crafts, electives), Bible Truths, Bible, I have a well stocked library at the house with for each subject, educational DVDs and CDs, Music theory books, they attend co op classes for the stuff I don't want to teach (ballet and art theory). They each play a musical instrument with a tutor.

Did you have something in mind you wanted to chat about?

I am just interested in different ideas that have worked for your family. My girls take gymnastics and Irish dancing but I have not found a co op that I have been interested in joining yet though I am looking.

I purchased Abeka's 1st grade curriculum for the year but I don't think I will do so next year. I will continue with Abeka's math and phonics but science, health . . . probably not. I would like to have more flexibility to teach where their interest are. Also I really do not like their Bible stories book. It is KJV and not very 7 year old friendly.

My husband is also very supportive but has 2 months left of a military deployment, so that is a bit of a challenge.

I am excited (we just started Monday) but TIRED. Things have been going well but I am feeling a little overwhelmed.

We also have a 12 month old.

Anyway, I was just hoping to find a little support from other triplet moms who are home schooling.

Thanks for your response.

Oh you are so welcome! It is hard when Daddy is away, I hope these next two months fly by. I do not have a little addition in our household but I will be willing to share how we're doing things. There are a few more HS Moms here. I would gather they have not seen this post - yet. You might want to check over on the Vet board. Send me a private email with your email address and we can keep in touch that way.

Take care.

I do too! I started last year with K5 and we are in the middle of our first grade year.

I use:

BJU 1st grade math

Explode the Code for phonics

Wordly Wise for Vocab.

History is just reading really good books.

Science Works for Kids by Evan Moor (Even Moor is a great online resource! Check them out!) Their Lit and History Pockets are wonderful!

Reading we are finishing up using the A.C.E. Paces that use the phonics code in all their stories then I will move on to the BJU Reading program.

We go to homeschool co-op once a week which for my girls is really just a social day. They have crafts and playtime with other 1st graders. I teach a Science class for 5th-6th graders and help to run the co-op. We have about 60 students from K4-10th grade.

The girls take Piano lessons and Krate.

Good luck this was the best decision I've ever made for my family!

Hi,
my kids are a bit younger, but we're homeschooling and loving it so far. we've finally settled on curriculum that is working well. and since I was having trouble getting off schedule very easily, I purchased Homeschool Tracker +. wonderful tool! we're accomplishing so much more and I feel so organized now.

the only co-op type thing we do is Classical Conversations. my little ones are enjoying it so much! they learn a ton, and it's working out well for playdates and friends. I think many families stick with the group year after year, so the friendships can continue. it's not really a true co-op though- they have tutors that present the material, so the moms (unless you want to be a tutor) do not have to prepare a class. and it does cost.

hope you are having fun so far! feel free to ask any questions.

Mary

We've done both public school and homeschool. Homeschool is preferable for our lifestyle. It requires diligence, energy, organization, and flexibility. The benefits are too numerous to list. My kiddos had the option to return to brick & mortar school this year. Triplets opted to stay home; older two went to ps. Both returned to homeschool after wasting 6 weeks repeating what they did 18 months earlier. (DD even taught teacher & fellow students some history.)

I use Well Trained Mind--classical education, in conjunction with Classical Conversations for the middle schoolers. Love Saxon Math, Abeka grammar, and use history for just about everything possible (makes for fabulous field trips!).

Is anyone here in the Plano/Richardson/Frsico/Allen area? We visited a Classical Conversations class today and were asked if we were the triplets checking out a group this Friday. Just wondered who the other trio was hs'ing in the area.
