Tess~
When I taught school, I tried to use many different techniques for the kids because we all know kids learn differently. I never wanted to sound like Charlie Brown's teacher; always talking and talking.
Sometimes, I used hands-on activities like manipulatives so they could "see" math.
Sometimes, I paired a student up with another student to partner read with the goals of taking turns, following along, and helping each other.
A lot of times, I used graphs and pie charts for a lesson instead of just talking about it, which can get pretty boring.
I just went over and read your post. Not sure I have any earth shattering advice.
If Sebastian has trouble processing, he could have his quizzes and tests read to him, which could really help.
Does he have an IEP? Lisa

Tess,
First, I love you and I've missed you. You remain a heart friend. Please PM me with your address and telephone number and time differentials because I really need to talk with you, dear friend.
Second, I have some very good friends who are home schooling children with learning disabilities, and I was just discussing this with a good friend at church yesterday afternoon. She has a special book regarding teaching children with learning disabilities, and she has promised to send this on to me to share with some of my other friends. When I get the information, I will forward it on to you as she spoke very highly of this book.
Can you believe that our little "babies" are turning 6?? My goodness. Seems like yesterday.
BTW, please keep me in your prayers. I start trial tomorrow afternoon on my case against my doctor. I am praying for justice and that the judge will see and understand what this doctor did that was so wrong. I am praying for a judgment against him, but also that he will see and understand where he erred. I need prayers for my peace, courage, strength and focus right now. It feels like I am under attack with everything else that could possibly happen...
Anyway, I love you and think of you often. Please send on your info. I'll be working strange hours for the next couple of weeks, so it would be good to be able to "take a break" and give you a call during a "reasonable time" at your end of the line.
Love,
Cat w/3 Kittens Caidan, Carina and Caeleigh Born at 31 weeks, 1/8/04.

I can't believe we are the parents of schoolchildren. It was yesterday when were comparing notes on feeding schedules.
All three of mine were in OT/PT through their third birthday, only one has continuing difficulties. She is undergoing evaluations for developmental delay and learning disabilities now.

I have one who is dyslexic. We knew there were learning anomalies, but didn't know what it was until 2nd grade. The triplets are on ADHD--really high on the scale!--and one child with mild autism. They have been taught that any label is just that, a label. Each challenge is a package deal, positive comes from within the issue. We've taken the time to accentuate the positive until none of them know there is a negative. What challenges are your kiddos having in school, or learning? That will help us to offer suggestions. One of my trio has Asperger's syndrome. Not only is she in the gifted program, she is also in the LD program. One has ADD and learning issues. School is extremely difficult for him. Besides being diagnosed with the ADD, all they have figured out is that he has some type of 'processing' problem. Our other daughter is extremely smart, is in the gifted program and has no learning issues. We have been so blessed though because the special ed teacher at our school is awesome. The school has been good to give the kids what they need. We are a very active part of their IEP decisions.
What kind of issues are you dealing with? Hopefully we can help!

No, none of my three had a brain bleed. He was probably the healthiest of the three when they were born.
