#1809, "Kindergarten "rest" time?"

Is that a fancy word for nap? LOL I planned to ask their Pre-K teachers today, but it looks like the snow is going to keep us home for a few days!

My kids haven't napped in ages, and that's probably the only thing that makes me nervous about next year and all-day K. Then again, maybe they'll be exhausted enough, with gym class, etc etc...

Words of wisdom?

Stock up on some more Pepsi Crack since they'll likely be up until midnight if they nap!

Yeah, and make sure to invest in Pepsi stock if that happens!

Seriously, though... it's painful to think about. They go to bed around 10 NOW and get up at 6-7. I'm sure things will work out just fine, but I'm getting anxious at the thought of lengthening my "work day," LOL

i don't know. they don't do rest or nap time at our all day K here. It all rush rush rush. Kids are lucky to eat lunch. They don't get any snack time or anything like that. They do get 15-20 mins or recess if weather allows. Otherwise it is all business.

Ours didn't nap in kindy. Their teacher did have a little rest time after lunch and recess. She would put classical music on and the kids had to put their heads down on their desks and were not allowed to talk. But I think they only sat like that for about 10 or 15 minutes. I think the kids are so wound up after recess that it was hard to get them to settle down for a lesson if she didn't.

I would not have been happy if they napped my kids in Kindy or even in pre-k 4. We stopped naps at 3.5 and had a 7:30 bedtime.

I can clearly remember doing that in SECOND grade. It is a little sad that kids are forced to just go go go go all day. They need a little break! (Not mention that was the teacher's chance to have a few quiet minutes.)

My kids have "quiet time" every day, and I too was afraid they were going to make them take naps. My kids have not napped since they were 3 and I did not want them to start taking naps again!

Anyway, I asked the teachers, and basically this is a time for them to do quiet play. They can look at books or draw or do puzzles. Kind of like a quiet recess. My kids actually really like this time. Infact, one of my boys gets mad because he misses quiet time twice a week for speech therapy. LOL

I hope that's what they have in mind. I saw the "blanket or towel for rest time" on the supply list and started to wonder...

I hope they have school tomorrow so I can ask one of the teachers!

My grandkids have a rest time in kindergarten. They have to lie down on mats. Basically, it appears to be a time for the teacher to get some of her work done, since funds don't allow for aides. It's wasted time for the kids, in my opinion.

This was the worst part about pre-school for us! Our kids were great sleepers at night (7-7) but quit napping at 2 - 2 1/2. Then they started preschool with the damn nap and WHAM! No one was ever tired at night any more. Luckily there was no nap in kindergarten . . . didn't know they still did that. I hope for your sake they do not!

I just got a note that K sign-up is the first week of March. I'll definitely be asking because my kids already go to bed around 9/10 and wake up by 7. I don't need a later night OR earlier morning! When would I drink my wine?
