I asked this on another forum that includes double multiples. Some of those twins said we could not use the word twins to identify our triplets. I always thought that in general, twins meant any multiple birth. Some twins at school told my girls they couldn't call each other twins since there were 3 of them.

I guess technically they are supertwins but I can see that label causing some teasing later on. What do your triplets call each other? "My triplet" just doesn't seem quite right to me, esp. when you are only talking about one of the 3.

Not a big deal but just something that's come up around here. Is this something they will be explaining to kids long term? It seems like such a pain. They really are happy to be triplets but only see that as part of their identities. Just wish it were easier to say.

triplets in 1st grade

Mine just say "my brother", or "my brother, Drew". They rarely say "my triplet brother", but would definitely correct someone if they were called a twin. The triplet thing usually only comes out of their mouth if they are asked, or if someone really looks confused.

For my kids it's just brother or sister...and for that matter, it is usually just by name.

I think the only time I hear "quad" or "quadruplet" is when someone else is referring to them.

They just say, "my brother." They would never say "my quad", and my identicals would never say "my twin", they are just brothers. As they get older, they don't want to have attention drawn to them for being quads. Their brothers are their best friends, but they don't want that attention for being different from others.

As MOM's we get a lot of attention when they are younger. I have found that the older my boys get, the less attention they get, to the point that now people just think I'm crazy for having four teenage boys with me! They have no clue that they are quads. They might ask if my identicals are twins, but nobody ever asks if they are triplets or quads anymore. This is a natural progression when they start school, that they are seen more as individuals, and less as "the triplets" or "the quads."

Mine generally call each other brothers, but since there are two other brothers, the trips are specifically called the "bubs", but only in our family. I don't even know where that comes from or what it means! Today they decided they were "frothers" or "briends" since they are brothers AND friends.

If my kids are only referring to one of their siblings, they use the child's name. Collectively, they call themselves "the big kids" (as opposed to Elise "the baby"). I also hear them saying "the big girls". "My sisters" means ALL the sisters. They never use the word "triplets" other than to correct someone who calls them twins or asks "what are you?".

Our three just call each other brother/sister..... interestingly, i have noticed when talking to another (person) Sophie ALWAYS refers to Jessie as 'my sister'..... not Jessie . Just an interesting point.

This is easy. My trio (age 6 & kinder) calls each other brothers and sister. They look at each other as individuals as we do. They just happened to be born on the same day. They're proud to be triplets and sometimes call themselves "Team Triplet" when playing, but are just brothers and sister. They only bring up that they're triplets when neccessary like on their birthdays or something.

I have 5 daughters, so they're all "my sister(s)" but they usually call each other by their name. They do refer to themselves as "triplets" when someone asks them if they're twins or triplets.
